Will Steve Kent ever Learn? Transparency Essential!

Watching Steve Kent as the Deputy Chair of Committees reminds me why some people should not be in a position of authority or power.

Frankly some of his comments today reminded me of a little boy hanging on to the jacket of a parent and saying I want to be a Tory too.

Steve has in the past suggested that he was not provided with all information. As a result he made statements regarding a matter that ended up being incomplete. Surely he can rationalize that the blocking of information is not a "good" thing or a "progressive" policy.

Below please read why Steve Kent should know that blocking or withholding information is not progressive or positive. It does not protect people and it prevents the truth from surfacing until further damage is done. Please notice that Steve says, "To our knowledge there has not been deviation from this policy by Scouts Canada.”  That's the problem Steve you did not have all the information.

Scouts Canada's chief commissioner, Steve Kent, says he now accepts that his organization did not report all allegations of sexual abuse to police in past decades, contrary to previous denials.

The admission came in an interview with CBC’s The Fifth Estate as part of its ongoing investigation into how Scouts Canada dealt with past cases of sexual abuse.

Kent was responding to revelations from CBC News that it appeared several cases were not handed over to the police.

Three months ago, Kent posted a YouTube video insisting the organization had always gone to police. “Any information that Scouts Canada obtains related to abuse allegations is communicated to police," he said. "To our knowledge there has not been deviation from this policy by Scouts Canada.”
Now Kent says he was wrong.

Lost Boys

The CBC's The Fifth Estate casts fresh doubt on Scouts Canada's claims about how it has dealt with those accused of preying on young boy scouts, and unearths cases not previously reported to police.
The Lost Boys airs at 9 pm on CBC-TV and will be rebroadcast on CBC News Network.

“My understanding has changed. There are indeed cases … where information was not brought to the authorities fast enough, and that is deeply troubling… I’ve actually instructed our staff to get in touch with the OPP [Ontario Provincial Police] to provide the information we do have.”

One final note Mr. Chair - Have you learned Steve or were you placating the public? 

Burton Winters - Priority One - the Fifth Estate

The Fifth Estate became the voice of Burton Winters last night and walked another leg in his journey home.

The CBC program was respectful - revealing - and powerful.

There is no doubt that "assets" that are owned and paid for by Canadians were not used in the best interests of Canadians but rather were used in a manner prescribed by a Rear Admiral. That same Rear Admiral did not make himself available to Canadians who wanted to ask questions through their public broadcaster.

Both Peter McKay and the Rear Admiral David Gardam went missing when it came to answering questions that were not in a controlled environment. A Minister of the Crown who had no problem receiving the use of "assets" after a recreational fishing trip - did not respond when the question would be "why not use the 'assets' for a 14 year old young man from Labrador?"

Both men did not display one morsel of the courage displayed by 14 year old Burton as he valiantly tried to find his way home. A Minister and a Rear Admiral could not find their mouths or in the alternate were not allowed to use them.

One thing is for certain; the inconsistencies in the stories provided previously by both were revealed by the CBC investigative program and they do require answers.

Most people watching were moved emotionally as Burton's baby brother and parents were introduced to the program. As the program progressed that emotion would have turned to anger and then finally would have become resolve - to find real answers and to correct the problem.

It was a reminder to our provincial and federal government members that they must correct this. Peter Penashue and Kathy Dunderdale cannot hide or cower under the watchful eye of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. 

I particularly liked the scripting which said the people of Labrador and Newfoundland have come together to fight for what's right and to fight for Burton and the loss of that precious young life.

Suffer the Little Children - I'm waiting to hear Steve Kent's Voice

Last week we all watched the Fifth Estate do an expose on the Boy Scouts of America and Canada.

So when is enough - enough?

When do we start protecting the children and not the perpetrators of child abuse?

How many human beings must we sacrifice for religious and social organizations while attracting and then protecting even more pedophiles?

What does it take? 

The Fifth Estate reporter could not even get straight answers from the current CEO of Scouts Canada - further exasperating these worst of crimes. 

Now we are going to witness victims of these horrific deeds of twisted men - hide them in order that they may speak of what happened to them. 

There is absolutely no way that any victim should have to sign papers saying they will never speak if they accept a monetary settlement. Then again why would the Boy Scouts of Canada or the USA ever require victims to do this? 

Why would the churches require the same thing?

Are we now so desensitized that these continued abuses of children are not worth fighting to stop? 

These organizations should be charged with crimes against humanity. I am serious! What crime could be worse and how many victims would make them qualify? 

Here's the deal, many leaders of organizations religious and others have been raping children for decades. The response has been to protect and hide the perpetrators - let them loose to abuse even more children, force the victims into silence, and then forget about them as they continue to attract more children and pedophiles. 

Today the talk shows should be blocked with people demanding the truth - demanding that this stop and promising to stop financially and otherwise supporting organizations that allow the perpetual abuse of children. 

What is wrong with us? We think we are civilized? The Prime Minister of Canada concentrates on a long-gun registry while pedophiles are being protected by the "moral" groups. 

Politicians routinely lie these days and that is so successful we elect them to be Prime Ministers and Premiers. 

Just think about the message we are transmitting. These corporate crooks that essentially bankrupt countries were kept on and given a raise - while people lost their jobs, homes, and families. 

Right now I would like to hear MHA Steve Kent answer the questions for the Fifth Estate. As the 

Chair of the Board & Chief Commissioner for that organization - I want to know where he stands on giving the public the information it wants. 

Enough is enough and we have far exceeded the tolerance we should have shown. We condemn somebody for shoplifting or selling some weed. We condemn those who have incorrectly placed a fence post on our property. We condemn children who spray paint property. We condemn children who break a window or two. 

Makes you wonder really - what have we become?
