Sue's Blog barely got the suggestion out and presto - Dean MacDonald is a winner again.
First of all the News Release giving Dean and his privately held company a piece of the 15 million dollar pie to put a redundent fibre-optic cable across the Province.
Here's the beauty - the News Release put it this way:
The Release has since been changed to reflect COO from CEO but I kept the paper copy...
"Our consortium is thrilled that we are able to bring this project to fruition," said Paul Hatcher, CEO of Persona Communications. "It will enable us to offer more reliable enhanced products and services to Newfoundland and Labrador customers."
Well you see Paul Hatcher is not the CEO he is the COO - Dean MacDonald is - despite the "mistake" made by the Government department.
Now the question is why didn't the CEO show up for the News Conference - and why not the Premier? Usually with this type of announcement (predicted to be viewed as good news) the Premier is front and centre - especially seeing he has already commented on the "positive proposal".
The CEO is Dean the Premier is Danny - taxpayers money going into Dean's company. These guys have been business partners for years.
The two did not have the guts to stand side by side as they transferred the bucks - our bucks.
And how did this come about? Well his buddy Dean pitched government (Danny) some time ago to build a redundent fibre-optic line for the "incredible" almost "impossible" event that Aliants system would completely fail.
Then with luck you could not buy - this event happened - a singular cable caught on fire and poof "it was all gone" - never before had this happened. I can't wait to see the results of Aliant's investigation.
So hide Danny and hide Dean - you should not be at it - simple as that!

I think it's great that there will be some real competition for Aliant out of this. My share of the $15,000,000 investment is $30 and I hope to save more than that on my phone/cell/internet/tv bills.
Yes and you will pay it back out in your tax to pay for the 15 million investment.
Does not change patronage and the need for a clean tendering process. Who knows - you might have saved more.
