Publicly Traded Greed

VOCM CARES - NEWCAP FAIRS

NewCap owner of VOCM (voice of the common man) radio - and favoured open-line programs has discovered a new business opportunity. They are in the trade of hosting outmigration fairs - moving our educated and skilled tradespeople from Newfoundland and Labrador to Alberta.
Ahhh - free enterprise - nothing like it - at one location VOCM makes money from advertisers for the openline programs - that listen to people suffering over their sons and daughters having to leave to get employment - while at NewCap's hotel down the road they host Albertan firms taking them away.
Come on guys - you are in the business of broadcasting - across Canada - do you really need the bucks from anti-seal protesters and Albertan plunderers?
This morning on open-line Randy was referring to yesterdays event and said "Sharon Modlin - I guess she was an organizer" - Sharon Modlin is employed by NewCap!
Once again I say - don't mind them making money off the hotel - or even sadly the radio advertising for the event - but HOSTING IT?
Money at all costs - including the new business opportunity of stripping Newfoundland and Labrador of her people.

Sue,

I think that if there were jobs here for the skilled people of this province, they wouldn't bother with going to a trade show to take them away from home to begin with! But, that's just it...there aren't any jobs! So, can you blame them for looking for a job elsewhere? I think I know what most of these people are thinking when they attend something like this. Actually, I know what it is as I heard many people at the fair saying it yesterday. It's that they want a JOB that's gonna pay them a decent wage and they would rather go away to get that job than sit back here in this province and go on welfare!

I was among those that went to the job fair yesterday. I wasn't going for myself though. I went to drop resumes for my father, who happens to live in Cartwright, Labrador. He certainly isn't going to find a job in his field there! I know that you are a frequent user of the local website in Cartwright, as am I, so you are aware of exactly how tough things are there now.

I also disagree with you for being so upset about a job fair of that type being held here in St. John's. I don't think it's fair to say that NewCap, VOCM or The Capitol Hotel were hosting an outmigration fair. To me, it was a great opportunity for people who have the skills to get out there and get some experience. Who knows, maybe once they gain enough experience they may come back home and start some business venture or what have you.

Bottomline, the people of this province are starved for jobs, and regradless of whether or not job fairs are held, they will leave this province no matter what because there isn't anything here for them.

Just my two cents worth. Thanks for letting my voice my opinion.
