Yesterday was budget day in Canada and the Speech from the Throne day in Newfoundland and Labrador.
As usual the media wants to know what the Boards of Trade think, what other politicians think, what unions think, ad what "big" cities think - but not any curiosity as to what a 10 year old would think.
The feds raided the contingency piggy bank and sold the GM shares to fictionalize a balanced budget. The upper middle class to upper class received more incentive to keep their money sheltered and anything whatsoever that could be considered middle class was put off for future governments to budget. Not much there for the 10 year old and many things to worry about as they enter into their post-secondary and career years.
The province provided a similar plan for destitution for the 10 year old - just slightly worse. We will now run deficits for 6 more years and borrow billions more - this is bad news for the 10 year old. We will be laying down chunks of cash year over year for the Williams/Dunderdale/Marshall/Davis legacy - supplying cheap power for Nova Scotia - this is bad news for the 10 year old.
So if I'm 10 - I can look forward to mounting debt - depleted non-renewable resources with no heritage cash, the payment of pensions 3 generations past, an aging population, a dwindling population, escalated health care costs, crumbling infrastructure and disappearing communities.
I can look forward to depleting oil - with no societal wealth, depleting minerals - shipped out unprocessed, a fishery that has been turned over to a few elite - no processing, a declining if not completely wiped out forestry industrial sector, and energy that I have to pay for regardless - so Nova Scotian young adults can rely on energy for growing industry.
Self-serving, underachieving, mentally lazy, and partisan zealots - have made my future real bright.
The 10 year old should start watching this:
The Newfoundland and Labrador debt clock PRESS HERE
The Canadian debt clock PRESS HERE
or for the other option - where politicians put the next generation ahead of personal or partisan interests - the Norwegian wealth clock PRESS HERE
I went to the Throne speech yesterday and watched the classless and clueless behavior of many government members. From the gallery - I could watch them check pictures on Facebook - or just simply click away on their cellphones while the Lieutenant Governor told us about our future and how important the people are.
Disgraceful. How do you sleep at night?
Our children are going to leave - they will have no other choice.
When listening to the radio, watching television or reading the newspapers about events in this province, there seems to be a missing link. One that bridges all that information together and provides a way for people to contribute, express or lobby their concerns in their own time. After-all, this is our home and everyone cannot fit in Lukie's boat and paddle their way to Upper Canada, nor should we!

Tony Clement - Tough in Crime - High on Van Halen?
The Conservatives might be TOUGH on crime - but you too can be forgiven.
Tony Clement will not only pardon/forgive you but he will travel to Toronto and pay to see you - IF - you can perform like Eddie Van Halen. Particularly if you give him a guitar lesson.
Listen Minister Clement - tough on drugs? - tough on drugs?
You travelled to Toronto to see Van Halen. You adore them - almost hero worship at least guitar hero worship.
Why not keep all those young drug offenders out of jail - and start a rock band or two. You could even become a groupie.
You Sir are a hypocrite - and you will unnecessarily ruin the lives of some who make mistakes - while worshipping a fellow linked with heavy drug use from meth to cocaine.
Below please find a series of tweets by Mr. Tony Clement CPC - I wonder if he can put this much effort into restoring the democracy - he and his government seem bent on destroying.

The Language may be Offensive to all Newfoundlanders
I specifically used Newfoundland only as the blog post only references Newfoundland.
If you want to witness ignorance beyond anything you have seen in a while - have a look at what a student in Toronto has to say about us and our place in Canada. Then have a look at the comments.
This is truly a hate post. It makes Margaret Wente look like a Newfoundland Patriot.

Stephen Harper is a Liar - Terry Milewski CBC finally takes him on.
"my people love me" "all my people love me" says Ghadafi - as protests fill the streets of Libya.
"the coalition says no" "the coalition said no to" to various budget measures says Harper - as his government was felled by elected representatives for CONTEMPT of parliament.
When Ghadafi does it - Harper and others says he's a delusional dictator.
When Harper does it - the media reports it and re-reports it and fails to correct the lies Harper continues to perpetrate on the people of Canada.
The only difference is - the people of Canada can throw Harper out politically, peacefully at a ballot box.
The media is doing a disservice to Canadians. We want to talk about issues -socio/economic and talk about trust, integrity, and demand that politicians obey the laws of this country.
CBC just had a political "panel" on the election consisting of Rob Russo, Bureau Chief Ottawa Canadian Press and Tasha Kheiriddin, columnist National Post.
They proceeded to talk about how "coalition" is the issue of the campaign and that the Liberals need to come up with one or two key messages like that to make a difference.
Who made "coalition" the issue of the campaign? They downplayed the role of social media and then went on to talk about the "coalition".
Finally Terry Milewski, senior correspondent Ottawa CBC has taken a stand and stood up to be counted. He has taken Harper to account on the created "coalition" issue and he pointed out that Harper is calling a "coalition" "illegitimate" now when Milewski added in "fact" Harper said the opposite during the Martin minority. He has called Harper out on this major inconsistency - which I would call a lie as he has done with Newfoundland and Labrador, income trusts, elected senates, and on being lawful.
In comparison the last question from a reporter - taken by Harper at a campaign event in Ontario was:
"what are you going to do to get the Maple Leafs back in the playoffs?" What a joke!
