Shall we take the Premier at His (Danny Williams) Words?

The above picture property of the Telegram and the following quotes from the story.

Have a good look. Tremendous huh?
I believe his decision to leave was already made what do you think?

I think the the following sub-quote by Danny says exactly what he meant to say.

An ebullient Danny Williams says the Lower Churchill deal he signed Thursday is so good, he would put his own money on the line.

Is that what he did? If so how did he do that? So people if you want to make money on the Lower Churchill deal - simply take some of the couple hundred million you have around and invest it in Emera stock. If this deal goes through it might be the only way a Newfoundlander and Labradorian is going to make good money on it.

Then there is this quote:

"I would take my own money and put it in if I could."

Now that he can put his money in (left office) - has he? Was the deal so good for Emera - he actually left to do just that? It was an "unexpected" departure right? The chain of command was so set - that everybody else ran away from the leadership. And Kathy is "extremely" focused on ushering a deal through - that she is unable to debate.

Then there is this doozy:

"[Today] is the day, hopefully ... when Newfoundlanders can finally let go of the Upper Churchill and say, 'Done. It's over,'" said Williams, who then immediately added the fight over the Upper Churchill is not quite finished.

"A word of caution. We're not giving up on redress."

I would like a clarification - did Williams actually say "when Newfoundlanders..." and not say Labradorians?

Then there is the "let go of the Upper Churchill" and then right after that the fight is not finished and we're not giving up on redress.
He did give up did he not? He is finished fighting right? Who is the "we" he is talking about.

How about this statement in the House of Assembly while in Opposition - May 15-2002:
MR. WILLIAMS: Mr. Speaker, my question for the Premier is, given the fact on those two particular deals that someone outside of government might have made a suggestion, maybe they might have suggested that safeguards be put in the Friede Goldman contract in the event of bankruptcy, or maybe someone might have suggested that escalator clauses be put in the Upper Churchill agreement.
Mr. Speaker, I ask the Premier: Is it possible that we could help? Is it possible that there might be some positive help coming from a debate in this House of Assembly that could end up getting a better agreement, a better deal for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador?

Indeed I say - indeed.

Sounds slightly conflict of interest-y.

I am paraphrasing ,but, didn't the "greatest mom " say that she would "shoot him " if he didn't leave politics ?

It's kinda like "keeping it all in the family" ,isn't it ?

What is that old saying Monty Python has ,wink , wink , nudge , nudge ?

The "we" are the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and the government elected to represent us.

Sheesh, Danny can never win with you nay-sayers...he fights, you complain, he steps down, you complain. NFLD is a prosperous province now THANKS TO DANNY WILLIAMS and he put his personal reputation on the line to get what he thought we deserved and he never took a salary. Don't forget that. Who gives a hoot what he does with his own money now. Just let it go. You spend far too much time reading into and analyzing someone else's spoken words and I wonder if you could handle the limelight as valiantly as Mr. Williams has...seriously doubt it.

First problem - you are anonymous.
Second problem he did not make us wealthy - he in fact netted us an 8 billion loss.
Third - Oil projects pumping not his.
Fourth - did nothing relative to the fishery - which is our living resource.
Fifth - on scrutiny - why type are we talking about - careful now. The Premier did not undergo real scrutiny.
Finally - what are you as part of "we" planning to do to get redress on the Upper Churchill.

He did indeed take his salary, and donated to charity - his own. Don't forget that.

Also, I would never call his time in the limelight, as you put it, "valiant". Cutting down people who merely questioned anything in this DEMOCRACY is hardly anything valiant. Bullying and personally attacking people is not "valiance".

Everyone who enters politics puts their name and reputation on the line, do they not? Not just someone as wealthy and astonishing as Danny Williams.

He may not be in public life now, but scrutinizing his time in it is completely justified, especially considering this very concerning Lower Churchill deal. But again, for some bizarre reason, any scrutiny of Williams is akin to blasphemy or something for some people like "Anonymous".

NL is again running a deficit (!!) and the debt is essentially what it was when Williams took office. He did nothing to significantly lower it, spending like a drunken sailor when the oil revenues were flowing in. And this Lowered Churchill will add at least $4 billion more - AT LEAST - to the province's already heavy debt load. Yes, we are prospering!

Time to put the Kool-Aid down, Anon., get real, and stop peddling myths.

Read my lips, Williams was RECOMPENSED for his efforts , it was just redirected to his personal charity .
