From Minister of Finance for Newfoundland and Labrador to Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation in a month. From fighting with the feds on equalization one day to representing them to the world the next. And you tell me there's not something going on. Our poor little province - how much can we survive. Did you notice that Tom Rideout who came on Open - Line right after the announcement on the news - did not make a comment.
How much did this cost? How much will it cost?
Carry on - another Newfoundlander and Labradorian sucked into the Federal Fisheries vacuum. Now this would not be a conflict either right?
So if Loyola Hearn is Popeye - surely Loyola Sullivan must be Brutus
DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENT
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced the appointment of Loyola Sullivan as Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation.
“The role of the Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation is pivotal to Canada’s continued strong international presence in ensuring sustainable world fisheries,” said Minister MacKay.
“Having someone with Loyola Sullivan's credibility join us in our fight against overfishing is tremendous,” said Minister Hearn. “Ambassador Sullivan's efforts on the international scene will help secure the significant gains we made when we overhauled NAFO last fall.”
As Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation, Mr. Sullivan will represent the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries and Oceans and will meet regularly with relevant national and international stakeholders on matters relating to overfishing and fish stock management. Specifically, he will advocate Canada’s international priorities for the ongoing reform of regional fisheries management organizations, the use of improved science and technology, and in greater flag, port and market state responsibilities. He will also press countries to ratify and implement international instruments.

Did I hear that Loyola Sullivan wasn't offered this position prior to his jumping the provincial PC ship? If so then all I can say is bullshit! Loyola will get lots of travel, cushie hotel rooms and fine dining along with a healthy expense account I am sure. This is why I have little time for politicians!
I agree with anonymous #1. The majority of politicians will tell you what you want to hear when election time comes, to get your vote. They rarely live up to their promises unless forced to do so. They say that in order to attract good candidates to run for office, they need to pay these people big incentives. How good are these people we are electing? I'm sure a monkey can figure out how to put a province in the financial shape we are in today. Actually, I think they can do a better job.
Personal greed seems to be the biggest problem with our politicians. They make contacts while they are in government, acting on our behalf, and enjoy both a pension and high paying salaries in public life, once they qualify for the provincial pension. In Brian Tobins case, two pensions.
I think this is a great announcement. Loyola Sullivan knows the issues and how to get results.
This is a big announcement and everyone in the province should be proud.
