LABRADOR (WHAT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS SAY)

Land of rock,
where the grey sea
murmurs
into the hard hands
of Precambrian
wastes

And the cries
of wolves
draw the stars
like waves of fire
though the
still dark air

Disconsolate.
Unending. Immense

Buried
in the deep heart
of some
frozen memory
is an ancient longing
so intense.

It calls,
it burns;

And still
seething,

Waits.

LABRADOR (THE NORTHERN LIGHTS)

Land of rock,
where howling wolves
draw the stars
like waves of fire
though the still dark air;

What dancing light,
will guide the exiled king,
Beneath drumming beat
of celestial wing,

To his grim
ancestral home?
