Danny's Energy Warehouse and the Lower Churchill

This morning on openline with Randy Simms - the Premier said:

"...if we decide to move that power to Ontario - who are very interested in purchasing it - the geography of this land says we have to go through Quebec - so Quebec would have to be involved in transporting some of that power through their province in order to get to Ontario - no different than if you refine gas here you have to get somebody to carry it...so this is really a transportation issue - so Quebec would not be an actual partner in the project..."

"We're gonna take our wind and we're gonna take our oil and we're gonna take our gas and we're gonna take our hydro and we're gonna accumulate energy so that we can attract industry to this Province - and ultimately that's what gonna bring Newfoundlanders and Labradorians home from Fort McMurray."

First - let me remind the Premier that his government said it had not given up on the Atlantic Route which would not see us use Quebec to "transport" power. Further whether they take an iota of power or if we pay them to transmit power - we are dealing with Quebec and paying for further development in that province.

As for the Premier's concept of his energy warehouse - to accumulate power - which would then be used to attract industry - he talks about oil and gas! Danny we do not own the offshore resources - the leases are let and the oil companies decide where the oil and gas goes and for what price. We do not have control - and even if Danny were to achieve a 4.9% ownership - this does not allow management or significant control or say in what happens with the resources after they are taken from the ocean floor.
Wind has to be backed up with other power potential for industry to buy in - so the only thing we have to warehouse for domestic industrial use is hydro power. That is the domestic energy potential - and even if Danny took a significant equity position in an undeveloped oilfield - the partners would not let him sell it for less than market value. This is what industry is running away from not coming to.

Either the Premier does not know what he is doing with energy - or he's planning a giveaway of our resources.
