Dangerous highways and roads in Newfoundland and Labrador

Since posting

Tracey's Disgraces - The Roads to Aquaculture and Energy

I have received dozens of emails and comments to the blog on other regions of Newfoundland and Labrador with less than adequate and in most cases outright dangerous roads and highways.

Let everybody in our province get a visual of your roads and highways.

Send your emails and pics to sue.kellanddyer@gmail.com

I will post them on the blog - and you can remain anonymous if you are fearful of repercussion.

Clearly this "have" province has a long way to go before really being able to boast that title.

A mathematical equation created by Ottawa to direct equalization where it wants is not the same as "real" progress in our province.

Thanks for all your comments,

Sue

Tracey's Disgraces - The Roads to Aquaculture and Energy

Somebody is going to be killed on these roads.

The routes to Harbour Breton and Hermitage are framed with majestic hills, mountains, and fjords but they are also wrought with danger.

This is equally true of the Bay d'Espoir Highway in general.

The path to aquaculture "riches" and hydro "gold" are a disgrace for MHA Tracey Perry and a tell tale of what happens to those communities adjacent to resources. Labrador is living proof that St. John's Metro (the heart of government) continues to refuse fair and equal benefits to those living in rural communities and the Big Land.

So Ms. Perry I have decided to show the rest of the province exactly what livyers on the South Coast are subject to and the blatant disregard for safety your government shows to people living in these communities.

Heading out of Hermitage (Route 364) toward Route the Bay d'Espoir Highway (Route 360) we give witness to some of the absolute perils for heavy equipment; fish trucks, construction equipment, and tractor trailers.

Here we see a massive stone and gravel truck heading down a steep hill - on the wrong side of the road - to avoid a shoulder which is deteriorated. Picture this with a car coming the other way in the icy winter months.

Next I will show you shots of the Route to Harbour Breton (Route 360)  and Hermitage (Route 364) - the first few of which will show you the beautiful scenery and the massive inclines and declines one must drive - followed by photos of highway conditions.

This goes on and on - up and down the mountain passes - trucks and cars trying not to get knocked over a cliff. Unacceptable. Tourism - I don`t think so - yet anywhere else in the world this would be a haven for those interested in natural beauty.

Fire appears to be out in Seal Cove - Fortune Bay

By visible consideration the fire in the hills behind Seal Cove - Fortune Bay appears to be extinguished.

As I get some additional pictures ready - I will post and do a citizen's review of the FES response.

The Fire still Burns - Seal Cove - Day 5 - Wind has now Shifted

The fire still burns behind the hills in Seal Cove, Fortune Bay - day 5.

The water bomber returned this morning with another expected this afternoon.

This is a stubborn blaze that can still threaten the town.

The wind is now blowing the smoke into the community. It is essential that this fire gets knocked down now.

Here are pictures of the helicopter today. I am also posting a couple of pictures of the scenery.

Seal Cove, Fortune Bay is one of the most picturesque communities we have - and that's saying something.

If you really want to see the ocean meeting the sky - this is the place to be.

The Fire behind the community of Seal Cove - Fortune Bay continues as it progresses toward the resettled community of Pass Island.

Eyes continue to watch the wind conditions - that fortunately have to date blown away from the town of Seal Cove.

Water bombers, the helicopter, and grounds crew continue the assault in an attempt to gain and keep control of the blaze.

Here are some pictures from today:

Premier Dunderdale is in Contempt - MOCHA any one?

MOCHA Members of Closed House of Assembly

Relax - have a MOCHA moment.

We are working - just not in the House of Assembly.

Simple really - YOU were elected as Members of the House of Assembly.

You refuse to go into the House of Assembly.

Cabinet and the Premier are supposed to answer the questions of the people in the House of Assembly. The people have elected opposition members of the House of Assembly and they have a role to play in our democratic process.

The people expect that the Opposition Members that they elect will have a reasonable opportunity to utilize Question Period. The people expect that Opposition Members may introduce a Private Members Bill. How can any MHA introduce a Private Members Bill if the government as a body supersedes the elected body?

Dunderdale's party had the most MHA's elected so they form government and appoint a Cabinet. This has nothing to do with members as members to perform their MHA duties.

Note to MHA Perry and others promoting the message - that "just because we are not in the House of Assembly does not mean we are not working". Your message is ridiculous - has no validity - and is a poor excuse for avoiding your duties.

Each MHA has the same value and importance and each has the power of their vote, their voice and their participation in the House of Assembly.

When Ms. Perry you were elected as an MHA - you were elected to represent the people of your constituency regardless of your party and the outcome of what party becomes government.

Ms. Perry you may sit in the House of Assembly and vote against government measures all day long - and while your party may boot you from the particular political association - they cannot remove you from the House of Assembly.

All MHA's should be pushing for the opening of the House of Assembly - period.

When government starts dictating the value of the House of Assembly to the point where a Premier could declare there is no reason to open it - she has crossed a boundary - she is in contempt of the people and their vote.

It is an abuse of governmental power to treat this institution with such disregard.

Open the House of Assembly or resign sit back and have a MOCHA.

The Progressive Conservative Party does not own the House of Assembly - the people do.

As an MHA you should demand respect for the House of the people or resign - you are a disgrace.

What next? Should we expect that the House of Assembly has been acquired by the PC Party? Will it now show up as an asset on the balance sheet of the PC Party at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer?
