Gutless - Cold - Unbecoming his office

The Truth and Reconciliation Report was released today.

I am sickened - heartbroken - and disgusted with the truth.

It may be midnight - but I have to write - I have to say something.

Let me start with this: The picture below says it all.

Yes Mr. Mulcair - your expression is perfect. Disgust!

Bernard Valcourt remained sitting while Justice Murray Sinclair announced the recommendation that an inquiry be held on missing and murdered indigenous women.

The gutless gesture says a great deal about Valcourt - but then again his judgement in the past has been the same.

Is he appropriate to be the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs? No - and I believe he should resign.

How any human being could sit and witness a truth as was presented today by the Commission and not be deeply moved and anxious to find reconciliation - is not fathomable.

The Government of Canada under the leadership of Stephen Harper should recognize there is no way to deflect from the word genocide. This was genocide.

Stephen Harper avoided that acknowledgement today and therefore I believe he is gutless - cold - and displays behavior unbecoming his office.

Children were systematically removed from their families and placed in deplorable conditions existing in the residential schools.

Children died and families were unaware of how and where they were buried.

Children were raped, beaten, and abused in a deliberate attempt to separate them from their culture.

This is inarguable.

Have we become so desensitized under the Harper government - that we can turn our heads and not look this genocide in the eye?

I believe an olive branch was offered by the Commission to the Government of Canada and through them the people of Canada. Stephen Harper today rejected that offer and instead talked about budgetary commitments.

Please Canada reject the Conservative Party of Canada this fall. Please Canada let reconciliation begin. Please Canada recognize that people like Harper and Valcourt have no place in our Parliament. Look at gentlemen like Paul Martin and Joe Clark who despite their political differences - stand tall and accept the truth.

Canada has never been the same since Stephen Harper was elected and today emphasized the chasm between the citizens of Canada and their Prime Minister.

Take a copy of the picture above in your purse or wallet when you go to the ballot box - and look at it just before you mark your X.

Harper Enemy of the State? Premiers must take Action

I always begin my posts on the Prime Minister by reminding the reader that Stephen Harper is a liar. No doubt that causes problems in our nation - not the least of which is setting a very bad example for young Canadians.

Now our "leader" is threatening our country. How? Well this man who sits atop the Canadian political heap is shovelling sh-t (figuratively speaking) and tossing it on the masses below.

Once again this ne'er-do-well is saying no to yet another First Ministers meeting.

Canada consists of provinces and territories and under confederation agree to a federal presence in areas of joint service delivery, national security, and to a certain degree matters of law. Under such terms provinces and territories agree to a federal taxation base provided by personal and corporate interests. Considering the monies raised to allow a country to exist are garnered from these sources - it is necessary and only reasonable that these parties are directly involved in the allocation of those funds.

Harper's insistence on running a one-man state and his determination to design Canada in his vision continues to jeopardize both the national economy and sovereignty. Make no mistake the international corporate giants do have his ear - while the electorate does not. This is a recipe for disaster. Harper's obvious desire to be a CEO should be achieved in private not public service.

The Premier's for their part are starting to wear some of the blame here. It is unacceptable to be ignored by the federal government and therefore the provinces and territories must take action to correct this problem. The whining of these individuals to the media has not and will not achieve regular meetings with Harper.

As Quebeckers go to the polls my instinct tells me that this is a real problem for Charest and will become a bigger problem as the dog days of summer continue to the fall. This in turn may cause additional and constitutional problems as we head into the winter of our discontent.

The people of Canada elect their respective provincial governments and they fully expect these politicians to represent their interests in the federation. If they fail in doing so - the people look to the media for proper questioning of the situation. I cannot think of anything more important in Canada right now than the state of communication, collaboration, and cooperation between the PMO and the Premier's. This means a first Ministers meeting must occur at least on an annual basis.

Currently the aloof Harper is winning the battle without having to raise a sword. This is not acceptable.

The Premiers, media, and federal MPs have the responsibility to deal with this situation or run the risk that Harper's spoiled honey will stick to them.

The Peter Penashue Position Perplexing, Political, Passive

Peter Penashue has decided to support the Harper government decision to close the Marine Rescue Sub-Centre in Newfoundland and Labrador.

His reasoning is that he has been convinced that safety will not be impacted by the move.

Sometimes it is necessary for people in the province to understand the decision making process of its Cabinet representative in Ottawa. This is one of those times.

Who did Penashue consult?

What relevant and knowledgeable people did he NOT consult?

What evidence was presented to him - that has not been presented to the people?

Did he make gains in another area to support that position? If so what?

Does Penashue believe he represents the people of the province in his belief?

If not how does this Aboriginal leader justify going against the common wisdom of the people?
(this in the context that aboriginal leaders and peoples tend to consult elders and seek out wisdom and consensus generally better that the rest of us)

Now the second point - even if Penashue believes that safety will not be impacted - on what basis does he support a loss of JOBS from this province?

How does an MP ever support a position where his province loses JOBS?

This is not a good start. Newfoundland and Labrador have both an MP Cabinet representative federally and a Premier provincially - who seem hell bent on going AGAINST the people.
