Fare thee well - the most gentle of men

Sylvester Dyer October 20-1927 - February 05-2014

Today - my father-in-law passed away. He was the most gentle of men.

Sylvester Dyer - grandfather to our children Paul (Megan) and Kailah (Jerad), father to my husband and a very dear father-in-law to me.

Passionate about supporting all men and women in the workplace. Sy worked to achieve fair pay, equality, pensions and benefits for people employed in the Retail, Wholesale and Department Stores as the International Vice President.

Throughout his personal life he was a beacon of patience and kindness - a loyal friend - a trusted confidante - and generous of the soul.

He loved to watch the achievements of his grandchildren and during his stay in hospital he was delighted when grandson Paul told him that a great grandchild was on the way.

He was an advisor for his children and a mentor for all who sought to work hard - while looking out for the other person.

Sy loved his garden, a walk, loved to drive, travel, and produce wine with his longtime friend the late Don Barton.

He attended Paul's wedding last summer and managed to get the first dance with the bride - Megan. It made him grin as he watched Paul wait his turn.

He loved family events and celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and holidays - and with a joy that added so much to the event.

The time we spent on the Southern Shore a couple of summers ago was memorable - he watched the whales - looked out to the sea - and although a little chilly that day - he was warm of heart. I shall keep those memories close - all my time with him was precious and very rewarding.

You gave so much and yet asked for so little. The most gentle of men.

"The pain passes, but the beauty remains" - Pierre Auguste Renoir

Love Paul, Suzanne, Paul and Megan, Kailah and Jerad

"Native American Prayer"

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the sweet uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still in each new dawn.
