Liberals and NDP MUST put PC MHA's on Notice

Once again we Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are faced with the reality that Kathy Dunderdale, Jerome Kennedy, Tom Marshall, Kevin O'Brien, Darin King, Susan Sullivan, and Charlene Johnson are smarter than the collective society.

Everybody else in the province and outside of it sees Bill 29 as regressive.

We must be missing something right?

What we are witnessing here is a desperate attempt by some PC Members to ram through a piece of legislation and we all don't know why. They won't tell us. But that's the whole point right?

Sadly the outer circle of the inner circle - in other words the PC backbench - don't appear to have a clue either. All they know is to vote yes and read from notes. The carrot? Well you know - maybe possibly somewhere over the rainbow is a potential Cabinet Post. You and I both know that this is unlikely to ever happen to most of them - ask Ray Hunter. There Ray don't say I didn't do you a favour - she might give you one now - to prove me wrong.

Some of them need the job and therefore will do whatever the boss says - and unfortunately they have not figured out who the real boss is. Yes - they can sit as independents in order to represent the people. They won't lose their job.

The key question remains - why are they changing the legislation?

They are making it harder to get information and they are expanding what information will be kept secret from us. Why are they doing this?

They make claims that the amendments are in keeping with legislation in other provinces. So what? In other words we will become more regressive to keep up? Why are they doing this?

Felix Collins is uncharacteristically animated. He is uncharacteristically passionate. He is uncharacteristically determined. Why? He is not like this on many important issues in our province. Why? Passionate, animated, and determined to reduce access to very important information - that belongs to us. Interesting - draw your own conclusions.

Jerome Kennedy is a bully. On Bill 29 however he surpasses that and has become downright vindictive. He speaks of people - when they do not have the ability to respond in the same forum. If he had any guts he would tell the person to their face - and in a place where the person could talk back.

Kathy Dunderdale is a coward. Our Premier has deliberately avoided the most controversial legislation in a long while. She is supposed to be the leader. No she is not a leader - she is managed. When you are removing information from the public domain - she as the leader should stand and state, debate, and explain why her government is doing this.

Just then I was watching the House of Assembly and watching the motion to invoke closure leaving the lips of Kennedy seconded by Susan Sullivan - a Minister of Health who has demonstrated she does not understand what she is doing. Behind Kennedy sits Keith Hutchings - and he sat with a smirk while Kennedy introduced the motion.

They are behaving like they have something really big to hide. They are behaving like they will be in trouble if they can't hide information. They are behaving desperately.

Do you think Ed Byrne, Jim Walsh, Randy Collins, and Wally Anderson thought another politician would come in an open it all up? No! Did it happen? Yes.

The most important commitment the Opposition parties can make - right here and right now - is commit to revealing all information as soon as one of them next make government.

Make that commitment - tell us you will audit and review it all. Tell us you will reveal it all. Make sure the PC MHA's understand - that it will ALL come out.

Make a commitment that you will tell us all about fibre-optics, land deals, mining deals, and energy deals.

Make us that commitment.
