What if OCI said ICU Hebron and the little fishies went bye bye

I wonder if one of Ches Penney's companies would take a look at building a module for Hebron?
I wonder if the Government would assist to make that happen?
I wonder if the plant workers from Marystown could be appeased or at least some tradespeople?
I wonder if all that happened would government grant OCI the right to export the unprocessed fish?

Does anybody know?

I want the Auditor General to have a better look at the books. I want the whys and the processes - do you?

Interesting letter! A few questions about the letter:

Re # 1: Who are the marketing experst with which you held discussions?
Was there a discussion of prices, price expectations, and where they stand at present?

Re # 2: What will this committee specifically deal with? When will it be established? What countries specifically are being examined?

Re # 3: What is the main source of price data for this statement?

Re # 4: I'm not entirely sure I follow what you are trying to communicate here. Can you say it in plainer terms - ie - what you believe the assessment included versus what it didn't. Also - why should government be permitted to examine the cost/economics analysis of any private business in any situation other than one where it is seeking financing? Are you concerned that this company is actually acting against its own interest in making a decision involving export to Asia? If so, what would motivate it in the alternative to the interests of the business???

Re # 5: If this is true - why would this be?

Re # 6: Has this matter been discussed in the course of the Free Trade negotiations? If so - when?; On NAFO - I agree 100%. On DFO - I don't believe beauraucrats build stocks or data - and they sure haven't to date - why not request that project-specific Academic/University grand pools be utilized more for fisheries-related projects? Then at least we can see more results.

I agree that Canada must protect the resource, and I agree with NL trying to become more involved in the form of joint management (jurisdiction), but I must admit these points raised in that letter just raise further questions for me.

I have seen no evidence to indicate the fishery can ever retrun to the excesses of the 1970s and the 1980s. The eternal highlighting of similar excesses by Non-NL Canadian and other players does nothing to make our own excesses any more viable or their return desirable. If it wasn't your intention to ignore our own excesses, you must be explicit about what they are - so that people see the cause as self-aware and realistic.

If you want to have a good discussion with the provincial and federal people on this, you should providing more specific evidence to support what you are claiming. It works better than anecdotes. It would also help if the Alliance actually provided its own view of what a rationalized viable long term fishery would look like --- numbers of harvesters, processing workers, communities with plants, communities that would need to see plant reduction/closure, and a full discussion of the realities of property rights, private enterprises involved, pricing and labour costs. Surely if you lay out that vision, it will be a lot clearer to people everywhere how you think all of this is going to work.

If that part isn't clear, there's work to be done.

Just a quick comment on # 4 . I own an independent RETAIL pharmacy . I am the only shareholder in my corporation , the only investor , the only person responsible yet I am NOT allowed to conduct my business the way I want (the way I have for years!) I am being told what I am allowed to charge , what my minimum hours should be , how many feet of counter space I am allowed to have , how many spatulas , counting trays , etc etc etc . I am regulated to DEATH ! In order to remain viable I HAVE to increase my fees to seniors , pensioners and public sector workers , charge for med profiles , tax receipts , faxing physicians , etc etc . I want to be left alone and do business as I have always done .... with professionalism and fairness for all .
