John Noseworthy ruined his announcement regarding his political debut today in several ways.
First - he tried the same old line of electing a member on the "government side". Mr. accountability and transparency would have all of Newfoundland and Labrador vote one way with all the MHA's sitting on the government side. So much for accountability and so much for transparency - if you follow Noseworthy's logic to the end - there would be no opposition.
Listening to the above slip and slide from his mouth should be enough to end any chance he has politically.
Second - he explained how he was offered the Liberal leadership and it was a "done deal" if he said yes. Now we hear that the Executive Board of the Liberals did not offer this to Noseworthy - so who did it?
It does not matter - the man is an experienced Chartered Accountant and as he says he knows the rules and processes. That is what he was paid to do for many years. The Liberal Party as with all parties has a Constitution and there is a process for any leadership. The Party Executive is charged with the responsibility to deal with emergency situations - as was the case with the unexpected retirement of Yvonne Jones from the leadership position. Noseworthy knows this and as a result he knew that he could not be offered - deal done - the position. What was his real purpose then to say what he said? The simple answer - to fit into the PC style of misleading and spinning.
Too bad Mr. Noseworthy - the people you helped to lock-up did not follow rules either.

Nicely put. And he is going against Lorraine Michael in a traditional NDP stronghold. Um, not gonna happen for him. Whatever happened to people sticking by their principles??
Randy Simms said on VOCM he was "offered" a similar opportunity - that if he agreed to seek the leadership, Jones and Parsons would throw their support behind him and that might ensure the leadership but the process would still be undertaken.
Dunderdale was only supposed to be an interim leader - look what happened there internally. No one ran against Danny Williams or Brian Tobin when they sought party leaderships - again internal mechanisms but both had to face their party structure in some form (convention).
It is disappointing that the Liberals could not come out with a clarifying statement on this one. To be fair, Mr. Aylward has a lot to do, little time or money to do it, and a party mechanism that seems unable to deal with anything in a timely way.
Sue, you are a necessary advocate for senior's rights. But didn't you find it unfortunate that when the Liberals launched their Senior's Policy it was not available online until 30 hours after the announcement and only after public criticism of that fact on CBC?
You would have done it better, so why can't they?
Because it is broken and needs fixing. The brighter minds are on the outside looking in.
