Vote against "giveaway" mentality and

I am entitled to my entitlements...

This morning I found out a Liberal is running in my district. Joining Tom Osbourne - incumbent and Clyde Bridger for the NDP is Rex Gibbons.

Well St. John's South - you now have the opportunity to get rid of the remaining vestiges of the "giveaway" mentality.

It is time to tell Rex Gibbons again that attempting to privatize Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro was not only a bad idea (and still is) - but it would have dramatically increased our electric bills - denied the province of hundreds of millions of revenues - and eliminated a great asset owned by our children and one which has become the core of our new energy corporation.

It is time for Rex to retire - and the policies he espouses should retire with him. His take on energy is not only naive it is dangerous - as it would continue to turn over our resources to billion dollar multi-nationals with less than maximum return to us - the people.

It is time to send the Liberal Party a message - that if they want to attract new ideas and people - the front-line must move to the back. If the party is to be rebuilt for 2011 - then Rex Gibbons - Walter Noel - Scott Andrews - Danny Dumaresque - John Efford - Roger Grimes and Norm Whelan have to relinquish the stranglehold they have on its future. You see when the Party President and Campaign Chair have to run - the Libs are no longer membership driven - they are desperate to return to the "glory days" of Clyde Wells and Brian Tobin for their own satisfaction. When you think about it - would Danny Williams want it any other way? For as much as Danny has become a folk hero the Liberals have become a folk villain.

This is not a case of taking one for the party when it is down - this is "it's my party" and nobody else is allowed to come. They will cling to their pathetic grasp of power by the fingernails - until finally it is all gone. They will take the party down further rather than relinquish their self-appointed titles (including the leadership). For them watching new people take the helm is painful - they should take that out on Tobin - not the party or the people.

St. John's South is in a wonderful position to say - we reject your giveaway mentality and we reject a party that is a social club for a few wannabes and hangers-on.

Rex Gibbons will not get my vote.

I have never heard from Rex - that privatizing Hydro - would have been a bad idea - have you?

Don't worry about it Sue. All the blogs, news media and open line programs are being haunted by the Liberal "ghosts" ever since the party fell from favour.

I guess they're just doing whatever they can to grab for that brass ring again.

Too bad they don't usually identify themselves for what they are instead of passing themselves off as media experts or members of the general public.

At least if they came out with the fact that they are party insiders it would give the public a chance to understand where they are coming from, but I guess that's not the way they want to play the game. The tactic says a lot though doesn't it.

I hope and pray both the provincial and federal governments get rid of the system of patronage in every shape and form.

Some people would sell their mother for the "me syndrome" and if the patronage system wasn't present, there would be no incentive there for them to do so.

I often wonder if such people are void of emotions or if they have become deprogrammed from having any sense of common decency and if they really possess a soul?

Isn't it amazing how long these political robots stick around the political honey ring?

It is time to change the way governments operate and the first thing that should go is the political patronage system since it only serves to keep people morally corrupt and void of a soul.

It is amazing that we would have even one person who would step up to the plate and try to finagle the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, yet again, out of another resource. But there are so many who are willing to do so. It is dastardly, sickening and outrageous.

I not only want Premier Danny Williams to win back the government, but I would like to see a healthy Opposition result from the election as well. With a healthy opposition, a better form of democracy results.

I also would like to see Premier Williams fix a few things that make government corrupt, the major one is to rid the government of the "patronage tool".

Premier Williams has practised with that slippery, eely tool a time or two himself since he became part of government. That process needs to come to an end. If there are positions to be filled, the positions should be filled through the correct channels, that being on merit and through an application process, instead of doling out jobs to friends who have assisted politicians in getting elected.

Patronage stinks to the high heavens and is a tool which governments practice with that only serves to keep governments corrupt.

After we have eliminated “patronage” in provincial politics, then we will aim to eliminate it in federal political system as well. God only knows the federal process has kept the province of Newfoundland and Labrador down-trodden for 58 years now with that tool.

When there are people amongst us who either, through being elected or being appointed, are willing to facilitate governments or industry by making a move for government or industry that is not constructive or healthy for the people for whom they are serving, then the process needs to become redundant.

When a person does not take into consideration a move that he or she will make that will not be good for the most of us, as far as I am concerned that person is a menace to us and should be ousted from the political system immediately. The person concerned stands in the way of the people of this province and the province itself moving forward in a positive way, and therefore that person is nothing other than a scourge upon our society. There are far too many of that type of willing people out there in both of the political systems, and that type of people need to be stopped from getting patronage positions.
