They have no oil and gas but - what the heck - they have ELECTRICITY.
Of the 500 - 700 jobs it will create at least 1/5th will require a university degree. But no problem there either. I am sure they can attract some of our graduates.
The environmental review is set for September with the refinery expected to be up and running within a few years.
And because they are always planning one of the proponents says:
"The process of refining oil causes pollution, but the organizers of the project claim that the fuel produced is cleaner than the fuel which is imported to Iceland, so once Iceland’s car and ship fleet would use the fuel produced in the oil refinery, the total pollution in Iceland would be reduced."
Don't you wonder about the Premier's apparent ignorance.

What the Hell is the matter with the overseers of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador? Are we too stunned to make a deal or are so hand tied by Ottawa, that it isn't possible? Is there anyone out there in Newfoundland and Labrador or Canada Land who can answer the question for me?
It appears to me that we have so much more going for us than little Iceland which has far less resources, but yet we are immobilized? We cannot move forward one iota. What is happening, I am screaming for an answer? Can you hear me?
Anonymous, education is the big difference. We are actually for the most part stunned as you say. The other is they do not see their resources as anybody else's but their own. We like to think of our resources as that of greater Canada. Our own premier said as much very recently.
" We like to think of our resources as that of greater Canada." - an excellent excample of this Kalvin would be the fishery,Voisys Bay,The Upper, and Lower ChurchHill.Shall I continue,OH OK ,I'll stop.
But,can i add another fact as well. Why would Ottawa really want to help Newfoundland and Labrador create anything back home when it gets better benefit out of our resources the way things are going now. They create jobs in Ontario,Quebec amd Manitoba while we ship, our most gifted resource our people, out to thease provinces .So ,they can work in the factorys that refine thease resources.
Why would Canada want to help us at all.Look at the Bigger picture.Think Canada. And ,you will wonder why Newfoundland and Labrador has nothing.Plain and simple.
They have no oil and gas but - what the heck - they have ELECTRICITY.
Since when is having oil (gas?) in a place a prerequisite to having a refinery?
We are nothing in the greater scheme of things. And every single person we elect aspires to be something. Hence, they suck up to the outsiders. Sad to say, that will never change!
