Harvey - Open and Accountable

Jack Harris former leader of the New Democratic Party in Newfoundland and Labrador and MHA for the district of Signal Hill - Quidi Vidi - has repaid the $2875 constituency bonus.

Jack said he heard that some members were having problems with their travel budgets. Hmmm - and to "make it fair" - all MHA's got the bonus payment.

So the bits and pieces keep coming slowly - painfully - and without the sanction of the IEC.

I am writing a letter to Harvey Hodder today - asking for the balances in each constituency allowance as at November 7th 2003 - the day Government changed hands to the Tories.

Let's see how open and accountable they really want to be. Jack if you don't want to be associated with this latest mess - you should ask for it too. The NDP does not sit on the IEC - at least they deserve all the information too.

Here's a copy of the letter just sent to Harvey Hodder and copied to all MHA's.

February 06-07

Dear Mr. Hodder,

I am writing this letter to request information regarding the $2875 payment made to all MHA's in 2004.
As this payment is related to the constituency allowances - and as the IEC - the Provincial Government and all Party Leaders have suggested they wish all payments to be available to the public for scrutiny - I request the following information:

What were the balances of each constituency allowance budget - as at November 07-03?
What were the original annual budgets for each constituency allowance for that fiscal year?

Best Regards,
Sue Kelland-Dyer
