Electric Cars - are we there yet?

As we crawl our way toward an "energy plan" - and concern ourselves with what Hydro Quebec is developing next - they are as usual speeding to the finish line. This time it's in an electric car.

Not only does the company partner in the engineering of such vehicles but it is part of their energy plan.

The following from the Montreal Gazette

Technological innovations, such as an electric vehicle that would consume $1 worth of juice per 100 km, are part of Hydro-Quebec's vision for a greener future, its president told a Montreal luncheon today.

If 25 per cent of the vehicles in Quebec were electric, it would prevent more than three million tonnes of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere, Thierry Vandal said.

While mass production of that car is "years" down the road, Hydro does have shorter-term goals of increasing energy efficiency and ensuring a steady supply of low-cost environment-friendly energy, he said.

Keep that power flowing.
