Sue's Blog kicking off the New Year with a Bang

To all loyal readers of the Blog - I have been gathering and reading material over the Christmas break. This rant will be kicking it up a notch as we are also in a Provincial Election Year.

So many subjects - so many policies - who's running - who is not.
Who is going to hang on?
Let's see what the members have been up to.
Let's see who is really committed to what.
Can't wait for your comments - on what is sure to be very revealing.

Politicians and Promises - the carrots they dangle - the commitments for a vote - will they say anything in an election year?

I would like to see something done about the abuse called "sessional pay". Can anyone confirm or deny that Loyola Sullivan only sat in the latest session for 1/2 a day, the same as his cohort, Ed Byrne.

my wife and i are home support workers. since this is an election year we figure we might get a carrot dangled in front of our nose.it might come in a small raise when tom marshall announces his first budget in march.

There has not been anything called sessional pay in the House of Assembly since 1988.

Loyola Sullivan sat in the House every day. As government house leader he had to be there.

There continues to be a sessional pay of sorts. The sessional pay of the pre 1988 period was salary based on the entires session. Currently members recieve a daily per diem that they can claim (in additon to salary) when the house is in session. As well Ministers are entitled to something like $75 a day without receipts. If the compensation is based on sessional activities, one might be justified in calling it sessional pay.

On another note, Sue you might want to keep the focus on this page. Establishing another blog for the 2007 elections is a good idea but you already have a strong following here.

Cheers and happy 07
