Come on Yvonne

get some real advice...

Yvonne Jones claimed today on Open-Line that she did not know if the Energy Plan was released - or if perhaps it was online. Randy had to inform her. This development - the greatest singular potential known in Labrador - and this member does not know if the Energy Plan is released?

Then she says "of course Quebec hydro developments will have an impact on the Lower Churchill" with respect to transmission. How would those lines impact the development if the power was used in Labrador? How does it affect Labrador if the power is not used there?

Jones is not showing the level of understanding needed to be part of the debate - let alone being part of creating a Liberal energy plan. Even though she represents a district with other significant hydro potentials and even though she sat as a Minister in the Grimes administration - she did not insist that an energy plan be completed before the potential development of the Lower Churchill.

In criticizing the Premier for lack of consultation with people in Labrador she failed to talk about the fiasco under Tobin and the proposed deal under Grimes. What was the consultation process used under these 2 Premiers? Labradorians can tell you that.

She does not have a vision which sees Labrador lead the way in industrial development in Canada! Labrador has it all - and could double the population with ease - if the "plan" looked at industrial potential there.

What efforts has she made to attract big energy industry to her district or in Labrador generally?

There is no vision - and I suspect the Labrador Party will point that out.

Sue you are entitled to your opinion. But let me clarify a few things for you. First of all I have just arrived back to the Southcoast of Labrador from being on the Northcoast for the past few days. Until friday there was no energy plan released, could it have been released on Monday morning and I not know here on the coast, a possibility? Asking questions does not make one ignorant just informative. I do not have the time to monitor openline shows 24/7. I have a job, and people to represent and I try to do it to the best of my ability. You claim to know how every one in Labrador should act, speak and think, yet you have yet to live in the big land. We have many issues and a longivity of misrepresentation of Labrador resources by governments, what we need are friends not enemies.Normally i do not read your blog, but since you e-mailed this piece to me I did read it. Next time you want to be helpful, you can share the facts you have on the lower churchill deal or the energy plan with me and the people of labrador, a lot of energy and time is often wasted on speculation.

I am pleased you responded. Now let me get a few things straight. I email my posts to all MHA's on all sides of the house everyday.
I do not pretend to know what Labradorians want or think and am happy to talk to people in Labrador fairly regularly.
The energy plan would be something of great interest to all people in the province especially Labrador - and it's release would be noted in all the news - not just on open-line programs.
I too am employed and am very bust - but I have always contributed to public debate on important issues to this province - for 13 of 15 years have not been paid to do it - nor for the research.
I have spoken to you about energy plans both while in Government and not - in fact since you have been a member.
Labrador has no enemy in me - and you full well know it. You know - in fact that I have been one of the very few Islanders that have supported Labrador lead initiatives.
I'm sorry but industry requires power - and wants the most reliable and cost competitive power they can get. You possess that power in Labrador and in fact your region.
How you can suggest that I know all about Labrador and what people think is disregarding any relationship we have had. I would suggest you modify that comment to reflect the truth and clarify my position as it relates to Labrador.
Knowledge on these resource based issues in not a novelty it is a necessity to move any part of the province forward.
From the day you became an idependent member I have been supportive of your positions.
To suggest otherwise is not true.
Right now - on the issue of energy I call it as I find it.
And it was not I that wanted to move forward with a Lower Churchill development without engaging Labrador first and foremost and it was not I that wanted to do so without an energy plan. I fought for Labrador then and I would fight for it now.
