While discussing climate change issues with Bill Rowe - Yvonne Jones discussed the need for extended ferry service - the problems caused by late freeze-up - etc...
Yes Yvonne global warming is taking its toll and causing significant damage to Northern regions - many of which have not had the benefit of the industry pumping out the emissions.
So when you appear on open-line - speak of the real opportunities for your district - the hydro developments which could be used for industry - industry that will have to relocate to use green hydro over the next decade. This is something you did as an Independent member.
Don't stay silent as this government ships Labrador's future out. Your district has great hydro potential and it can be used domestically. If you believe a word that came out of your own mouth today - then you know industry must come.
Pull a Frank McKenna - he raided central Canada of call centres and as a result took his place as one of the most successful politicians in New Brunswick's history if not Canada's. He did not even have the natural resource you have to work with. Raid central Canada of heavy power industries.
How do you expect to attract significant industry to your district of Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair by using subsidized fossil fuels? Be careful you might be getting the "WDL" syndrome - a topic for an upcoming post.
Anyway here's the latest from Vermont and what they'd do if they get power - like ours.
"Climate change is the single greatest challenge -- the single greatest catastrophe -- our children and grandchildren will face," Shumlin said as the session began. He and Symington also emphasized that they see the climate-change challenge as an economic opportunity for Vermont to build a thriving sector of alternative-energy, energy-efficiency businesses.
Another failure hey Williams - a primate can sell Lower Churchill power to outside markets if one can get the creature to mark an X - only a business person with Newfoundland and Labrador's best interests at heart - and a vision can develop the Lower Churchill for industry here. Why is it Premier that we are the only ones not desperate for power?

I agree with you Sue. Yvonne Jones should be joining her voice with yours and calling for the hydroelectric energy which will be produced from the Lower Churchill to be kept in Labrador to create industry in Labrador. Anyone with one brain cell should be able to attract industry with that resource from the Lower Churchill which is expected to come onstream by 2015. If we can't attract industry with that time span, we must be a very inept people indeed. It is time for the people of this province including Yvonne Jones to start speaking out on this subject. Who is going to be here, if we don't do things properly, to turn out the lights for this generation of baby boomers, who are in the majority and who in the next 15 years will be needing a lot of geriatric care?
I also agree with Yvonne Jones that Labrador needs a more permanent ferry service, and paved roads, but now is the time for her to join voice with you to secure the Lower Churchill power to attract industry to ensure that Labrador has a great future, which should have been secured a long time ago with the Upper Churchill project. I hope THAT Lower Churchill hydro-energy will be used to do just that.
We can't blame Premier Danny Williams for the Upper Churchill failure of not benefiting Labrador, but if he doesn't do things right and secure industry with the Lower Churchill for Labrador, then he will have to take the blame for that happening. I do think though that Premier Danny is more astute than that. At least I hope so.
