Minister Burke continues to mislead the Public
She should concentrate on Stephenville
She should concentrate on Stephenville
Minister Joan Burke said today that the Federal Government had reversed its decision to close an employment equity office in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Minister the decision had not been made - it was under program review.
In an interview with Sue's Blog on October 24th-06, Senior Director of Labour Standards and Workplace Equity Programs , Human Resources Canada said, "This is currently under internal review and no final decision has been made. It is only a proposal at this stage."
The Minister did not confirm with the Federal Government or her federal colleagues that the office would close - instead the Minister announced the loss of a job to support the Premier's efforts to divert our attention away from outmigration and the fisheries collapse.
I challenge the Minister to show me the announcement by the Feds that the office would close. She can't because it does not exist - what a farce - and the media lets her waltz.
The Department told Sue's Blog that the financial impacts of such a move had not yet been determined - let alone a decision made.
In the Minister's News Release of October 23rd-2006 Joan Burke said the decision was made.
Simply not true - in other words the Minister is incompetent or misleading.
In another interesting twist - today's announcement comes from the Executive Council office where her first one was under the Education banner.
Joan you should have tried nipping the Stephenville Mill closure in the bud - and been all over it before hundreds lost their jobs.
