Domino tells a compelling tale that was almost lost: the true story of a deadly hurricane that devastated Labrador's "Eskimo Coast", as it was called, in the fall of 1885. Sixty-six ships were wrecked and over seventy people died, many of them women and children. The book is set in Domino, near Black Tickle, and in other Labrador sites, such as Turnavik on the North Coast. It offers insights into the lives of the people of the Coast in the 1800s.
Maura Hanrahan lives in St. John's and is a member of the Sip'kop Mi'kmaq Band of Newfoundland's South Coast. She came to know and love Labrador through ten years of working with the Metis, Inuit, and Innu in Labrador.
