The Premier has no Vision

Read the questions below - and answer them yourself.

As the statue of Robert Bourassa was unveiled in Quebec last week - celebrating in part that Premier's vision of economic security and growth through a crown owned energy company - Hydro Quebec - our leader was escalating the decimation of our economic viability by planning to export Lower Churchill power.

The Lower Churchill development is 2500 MW's of gold for Labrador. It represents 5-15 significant industries and clean power for all.

Why is our Premier continuing to push export of this power to other Provinces and States? What does Danny think these jurisdictions are going to do with this power?

What timely evidence has the Premier provided to demonstrate that industry will not locate in Labrador? Why would they locate in Northern Quebec - Northern Ontario - Northern Manitoba - Northern Alberta - but not Northern Newfoundland and Labrador?

Why are aluminum companies going to Siberia - Iceland - Quebec - and BC but not Newfoundland and Labrador?

Why are uranium enrichment companies not interested in Labrador when the raw resource and power is there?

If we export the power - how will we develop industry in Labrador? The Premier might answer recall. Why would industry come to Labrador and wait for recall when they can get the energy in Ontario?

Why do northern Quebec communities have a greater population than all of Labrador using nothing but Labrador resources?

At a time of $60 a barrel oil - how is the Premier missing the value and advantage hydro power has in the global marketplace today?

If hydro value went through the roof when oil went from $3 to $10 a barrel during the Upper Churchill what value does the Premier see when oil is at $60 a barrel?

The Premier says there will be "no more giveaways" - we must have a refinery for our oil and gas - we must have a processing plant for our nickel - but we need nothing for our hydro? Why is the Premier being inconsistent with his philosophy?

Why did the Premier issue a request for proposals for the development of the Lower Churchill without first releasing the Energy Plan?

Why can't Danny use his business experience and success to attract industry?

Why does Danny believe it can't be done in Newfoundland and Labrador?

Why does the Premier one day say we are still looking at the Atlantic Route for wheeling power and then the next say Gerry Reid should look at a map - because we have to go through Quebec to get to Ontario?

Why does the Premier have the basic information on power rates for Island consumers wrong?

Why does he one day blame Quebec for hindering our development - the following week apologize to Quebec - then the following day say he and Charest can do a deal?

Why does Danny think that Ontario can attract industry using Labrador power when he cannot attract the same industry with cheaper Labrador power?

Does Danny believe we will need more power in Labrador or on the Island for the next 10-50 years?

If not - why not?

If yes - what energy does he plan to use?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How is power produced?

If you are using gas and oil - you buy oil and gas forever at volatile prices to run generators.
If you are using uranium - you continue to buy uranium at volatile prices to run nuclear units.
If you are using hydro - you never have to buy the fuel - it is free forever.

Once capital costs are repaid for the development your fuel (water) is free.
Once capital costs are repaid for the thermal units your fuel (coal, gas, or oil) cost money.

Oil and Gas is subject to OPEC - hurricanes - floods - political turmoil - and environment charges. Nuclear is subject to global uranium prices and supply - and significant environmental issues in nuclear waste. Hydro is subject to the cost of water - that we own.

There are other renewables in wind - tidal - and wave energy however neither is as reliable or cost competitive as hydro.

Hydro is superior and Danny wants to export it. Do not let our Premier export our future!
