The weather is good because my leader told me so.
Make no mistake - that's where we are with Danny. The Fisheries Broadcast reported this evening that public consultations planned to discuss the restructuring of the fishery will not be open to the public or media.
Loyola and Danny you should be ashamed of yourselves - and I am filing a formal complaint with the appropriate federal and provincial departments.
The fishery is a common resource not owned by the Ministers of Fishery in Ottawa or Newfoundland and Labrador. When the great summit was held the media and public were barred - the Premier suggested that public consultations would allow all to make their feelings known at a later date.
The restructuring of our rural economy, many communities, and a resource that you or me could seek to become involved in at any time - should be discussed openly and publicly.
The fact that they will allow me to write the committee a note, telephone, and/or email them does not constitute a full public airing and discussion of this most important industry.
The Union and both levels of government are trying to avoid passionate debate or discourse and most importantly trying to keep the fishers and plant-workers away from a public they need the support of.
Many frightened men protecting themselves against the people who elected them. Will the media protest this move? Will fishers protest the set-up? Will plant-workers demand that people have a right to be heard?
If this process continues as planned - there will never be support for people and communities who survive and thrive from the fish - from the general public.
That's exactly what Danny, Tom, Loyola, Earle, John Risley, and Bill Barry want - let's see if they are allowed to have it.
This blog might be down for a while - I have to wait for my leader to check the content.
