CONTEST Deadline Extension

Sue's Blog is pleased to announce that the deadline for entries for the Poetry Contest has been extended to November 25th - 2006 with winners announced on December 5th - 2006. The extension is to accommodate youth entries from some schools participating in the contest.

Following a successful book launch By Maura Hanrahan and her publisher Flanker Press - Sue's Blog is delighted to have 2 copies of:

Domino: The Eskimo Coast Disaster - The books will be given away to 2 Creative Sue's Blog Readers!
One copy will be awarded to the school that the youth winner attends and one copy will be awarded to the adult winner.

Youth Category - ages to and including 18 years
Adult Category - over 18 years

Domino tells a compelling tale that was almost lost: the true story of a deadly hurricane that devastated Labrador's Eskimo Coast in the fall of 1885. Fishermen and their families on their way home from a hard summer's work were caught in the fierce winds and waves. Sixty-six ships were wrecked and over seventy people died, many of them women and children. And the after-effects of the completely unexpected storm were more far-reaching than anyone could imagine.

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are invited to submit a poem about Labrador - we will post some of the entries on the Blog.

The theme of the poem is - Labrador - the Heart of the North

I encourage all readers to enter - especially the youth of Labrador.
This is a great opportunity to celebrate Labrador by expressing your feelings to readers from around the Province - Country - and the World.

In recognition of the importance of literacy - I encourage classrooms around the Province to get involved and win a copy for your library.

In recognition of adult literacy - I encourage those people involved in lifelong learning to submit an entry.

The contest will run until November 25-06 - with 2 winners to be chosen by the author of Domino - Maura Hanrahan
The winners will be notified and announced on Sue's Blog December 5/06

Copies will be mailed to the winners by Flanker Press

How to Enter
Write a poem using the theme - Labrador - The Heart of the North

For entry into the adult category include your name and email with your submission.
For entry in the youth category your teacher must include the schools name and email, the entrants names and grades with the submissions.
All entries will be forwarded to the author.
