1. Hydro Quebec announced today that they are building a 1250 MW transmission line to Ontario to supply their neighbor with some energy.
2. Loyola Hearn said today that Grand Banks cod will take "centuries" to recover.
3. Canada's Finance Minister says removing non-renewable resources from the equalization formula is a "PREFERENCE" not a "PROMISE".
4. EVERYTHING I've been informing you about for 4 weeks.
Just to put #1 in perspective and make a little prediction. I know that Quebec does not have enough power for itself (it's currently a net importer) and not enough to renew expiring contracts in the States. They are now going to sell 1250 MW's of power to Ontario and they are so sure about the supply that they will have the new transmission line built in a decade. Think about this for a minute. Remember when Danny announced we were going it alone on the Lower Churchill? Quebec politicians were not miffed, in fact they were very gracious. HMMMM That's because they know that Newfoundland and Labrador is going to sell them at least 1/2 the output of power from the Lower Churchill. Guess what our power project will be on stream in about oh sayyyyyyy 10 years.
Just think about number 2 for a moment. If the Grand Banks cod is not going to recover for centuries what is the most IMPORTANT job for Loyola? CUSTODIAL MANAGEMENT maybe. But he is going to keep "talking" to the EU nations and try to convince them that it's okay for us to take some bay stock of northern cod? HUH
And don't forget he also said if Newfoundlanders and Labradorians do not behave like Nova Scotians we might lose the recreational/food/tourism/I'm in political trouble fishery. Keep focused Strahl 5 billion, Loyola 10 million.
And the best one today....Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has changed the wording from a promise to a preference. Too bad the media didn't catch that before Loyola left the wharf. For his part the "hooked tongue" was still in fine form as he said we are not going to claw back the Accord money. Nope they probably will not because the Accord is not equalization, however will the oil money be counted? Yes unless Quebec gets renewables removed from the equation too.
I'd want to shut me up too.
Hey Journalists if you use the material give me credit. OK
