Will Minister Dalley take action - to protect highway workers and public?

So the government is trying to encourage a culture of safety? They are trying to protect those who are working on or beside highways and roads?

Well Minister Dalley deal with this:

On Monday (approx. 1:15 afternoon) from Salmonier Line to the Federal/Provincial Forestry facility on Brookfield Road - one of your employees (Department of Natural Resources displayed on side of SUV) - passed at least 12 vehicles without using indicators (at times speeds exceeded 130 km's), did so while using a hand-held cell and on 3 occasions passing in a construction zone. Further the vehicle appeared to have no shocks and was bouncing around the highway - when the driver flew over bumps.

As I was heading in the same general direction - I followed the driver to the forestry facility and pulled up to ask if he understood our laws?

Before I could speak - other than say I was travelling behind him on the highway - he blurted "yah I know there's something wrong with the back of the vehicle". He therefore knew he was driving an unsafe vehicle at excessive speeds while on a cell-phone and in a construction zone. So I proceeded to ask him if he understood the cell-phone laws in the province - which he responded to with a grunt and a roll of the eyes - then when I asked if he also understood the laws while travelling in a construction zone - he looked at me bemused - said a snide thanks - and walked into the building.

Plate number GPN 528

Here's a video in the construction zone.

Please remember as well that this vehicle was bouncing dangerously when it hit bumps and could have easily caused a serious accident.

Safety is not a joke right?

So Minister Dalley this one is easy. You know what vehicle it is and you will have the cell number - look at when the cell was used. How about trying to find out exactly how fast this SUV was going in the construction zone and whether or not the vehicle has since been repaired - or is it still on our highways as an accident waiting to happen?

I'm all for busting selfish ignorant morons like this guy, but I'd like to know if it was the driver of your vehicle or a passenger that filmed the footage. If driver, then pot meet kettle.

I think you'd be surprised to know that most government vehicles have lots of problems with them. I use to work with DOTW and I never felt safe driving over 100kmph in some of them.

The passenger was filming.

Good for you for bringing this to everyone's attention. Hopefully it will result in some corrective action. That will depend on who was driving it. Government do treat employees differently when disciplining and I base that on 37 years as a public servant
