The Joy of Industrial Collapse - Dunderdale/Harper Alliance

I can only sit in amazement as I watch politicians attempt to turn another fiasco into a blessing.

One mill down - ah that's alright - in fact it's better for the region.

Two mills down - ah that's alright - we will attract more by not having the mill here.

Three mills down - sure that's a hat trick - great all round.

One fish plant goes - fine makes the other ones stronger.

Two plants down - rationalization is occurring - Great!

Three plants down - marvelous let's do more aquaculture.

Four plants down - now we are getting somewhere.

Five plants down - well you knew that would happen.

Six plants down - perfect St. John`s and Mount Pearl are booming!!

Now with all this industry gone - we will surely need more power - don`t you see it?

While we are at it - let's downsize Search and Rescue surely this must be good.

Or better yet let's back out of 70 billion in federal shipbuilding work because Kiewit is too busy - that's good news right?

How about cuts to the Canada Food Inspection Agency in Newfoundland and Labrador - great - marvelous!

Cuts to DFO - fisheries science - yay!

How about the loss of Veteran's Affairs office in Corner Brook - rolls right along with the mill. Perfect!

How about ACOA and the federal parks - downsize - rightsize - marginalize Newfoundland and Labrador - hip hip hooray!

How about cuts to the community access programs - Yes that is wonderful news for rural towns!

Now let's focus on EI - yes that will help Newfoundland and Labrador.

Or maybe the (un)equalization formula - made in Quebec to punish Newfoundland and Labrador.

So what's next? Old Harry?

Can't wait the future looks very bright indeed.

We can be the hippest, coolest, youngest province to become non-existent.

Stop being so negative - emphasize all these positives!!
