Fire continues behind Seal Cove - Fortune Bay

Last night was a long one for some community volunteers who kept an eye on the stubborn fire in the hills.

This morning rang in with the return of a helicopter and grounds crew to continue to fight the blaze.

I have taken a series of shots to give you an idea of what's happening today.

Helicopter prepares to bring equipment to a ground crew behind the hill you see.

Hot spots continue to smolder in the hills directly behind the community.

Helicopter collects gear from the road leading to Pass Island - A resettled community.

Charred hills behind the community.

Behind these hills the fire continues to burn and is where the fire suppression work continues.

The fire burned right to ocean's edge.

The local fire brigade, town officials and community are to be commended for their efforts and watchful eye. Forestry workers continue their efforts today to extinguish the fire and have given a tremendous effort to keep the community safe.

As you can see despite the charred hills - the community of Seal Cove Fortune Bay is a beautiful rural community and is the home of caring, hardworking, and friendly people.
