Province backed the right horse in federal election? ABCD in October!

As yet another day passes without action on the boundaries of Newfoundland and Labrador - the day comes closer that Quebec challenges the 1927 Privy Council ruling.

Let it be noted that Premier Kathy Dunderdale continues to ignore - Old Harry, Labrador/Quebec Boundary, and the state of the Fisheries in our province.

Premier Dunderdale was heralded by Finance Minister Tom Minister as to having foresight regarding a Harper majority. Let's put aside the snickers for a moment and actually give credibility to Marshall's claim. That being the case - decisions on the Muskrat Falls/Lower Churchill legacy of shame deal with Emera - must mean that she is deliberately making a bad deal. Perhaps Marshall - can peer deep into Kathy's mind and tell us why she is doing that.

The media continues to shirk all responsibility related to this massive and expensive resource development as the Opposition leaders either are too ignorant or too disinterested to do their job.

Marshall says of Premier Dunderdale "the Province backed the right horse in the federal election".
May I remind the Minister - "with the greatest of respect" - that the Premier absolutely did not back the right horse - as she did not back the peoples choice. Dunderdale, Marshall, and all MHA's serve at the will of the people - the voters - the electorate of Newfoundland and Labrador not Ontario or Canada.

The only way - our Premier could have backed the right horse was to go with the wishes of the people - which if we take Marshall at his word - Dunderdale would have had no problem foreseeing. Somehow our Premier - through an extraordinary ability like the mentalist - pictured the sweet smell of majority for Harper - yet like a political neophyte had no ability to feel the desire of the voters in her own province.

If Kathy believes the people are always right - therefore we must accept a majority (first past the post) victory for Harper - then she must also appreciate that her fortunes may be seriously compromised for the October day at the races.

It becomes particularly disturbing when average people such as Marshall and Dunderdale believe that they possess more wisdom than that of the majority of average Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. It goes beyond arrogance and becomes reckless. The Cabinet and Premier do not possess any particular expertise in the development of hydro-electric resources and clearly they are amateurs regarding the attraction of industry to such superior energy potentials.

This continues to the executive levels of Nalcor where snickering - rather than real dialogue - is the choice of behavior - for highly paid "professionals".

The people of Newfoundland and Labrador showed advanced intelligence when they said no to the wholesale giveaway of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro under Clyde Wells and went well beyond the efforts of politicians of all stripes. That decision was forced upon Clyde Wells after over 2 years of public debate and discourse - lead by the people of our province.

Now these self processed geniuses currently sitting in the House of Assembly have elevated themselves yet again - by determining they are protecting us from ourselves. They sit in reverence to themselves - and pontificate about nothing to each other.

The ABC campaign was not launched to address one singular issue. It was launched by Dunderdale -Williams - and caucus to warn us about the significant character flaws of Stephen Harper and the fact he would be a "dangerous" person to give a majority to. We agreed and continue to agree - while Dunderdale and Marshall with their colleagues clearly demonstrate that they only asked us to do that "cause" Danny said so.

Now then who should we believe is right now? Who is right on Stephen Harper? Who is right on the development of the Lower Churchill? Is the House of Assembly truly reflective of the people? The answer to that is no. Kathy Dunderdale and caucus clearly disagree with the will of the people and should understand completely when ABCD begins in October. Anything but Conservatives and Dunderdale.

I don't like the situation either but there's one major problem with ABCD. What other options do we have? As you say yourself, "...the Opposition leaders either are too ignorant or too disinterested to do their job"

So what's the option to Dunderdale? Jones or Michael? I don't think so, not by a long shot.

It's a tough situation but we all (everyone) need to keep pounding away at elected officials, NALCOR and the media over the boundary issue, Romaine, Lower Churhcill, etc.
