Steve Kent - the Lower Churchill - and shattered futures of our youth

I tuned in to Nightline last night with Paddy Daley to hear the conversation of the evening. To my utter dismay - Steve Kent was on trying to defend the Lower Churchill proposed development.

First Steve - you demonstrated little to no understanding of the sector and I have no reason to believe you have a real understanding of the contractual history of the bigland's massive renewable resource.

Second - it was disheartening to hear a young man - defend what will become - if it proceeds - a legacy of shame for our children. I can only assume this was the nonsense that was happening during the Upper Churchill fiasco.

I had to ask myself - why is this person on the public airways spreading a partisan line? Does he really know why he is doing this? Mr. Kent - just a word of advice - in this day and age where what you say is out there for the record - I want to know - where will you be when the children of today ask why you - Steve Kent promoted something so bad for their future?

I heard your comments on person-years of employment and gasped - does this young fellow know what person-years of employment was achieved for the Upper Churchill? How did that one work out Steve? You are the generation still suffering that fiasco - now you want to set about doing the same for the next generation to come.

I listened to what you had to say Steve - you need to ask yourself this question - why are so many other people - much more knowledgeable than you on this resource - questioning the deal? Eliminate the partisans and the obvious spewers of partisan comment - there still remains reasonably minded passionate Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who do not like this proposed deal.

I asked myself - what does this young fellow know about the plight of Labradorians - and the knocking they took on the Upper Churchill? My answer is you - Steve Kent - are hiding under the partisan skirt of the mother party and plugging your ears to anything outside of that. They must tell you not to talk to strangers - do they? That was sensible when you were a young lad - but you are a grown man now and a politician - you must talk to others now. Despite what your leader Kathy Dunderdale tells you - I am a legitimate citizen of this province and she nor you have the right as our public servants to treat me as a stranger.

You are not able to debate this issue and that should bother you - your name will be on this legacy of shame if it proceeds and the children of tomorrow will know exactly who to blame.

At the end of your conversation with Paddy - I had to turn off the radio - and worry about the children and another partisan head talking his way into ruining their futures.

This Groundhog Day - we are reminded do not repeat the mistakes of our past.

The "operative" word for Steve Kent is "YOUNG".

Another is "OPPORTUNISTIC" .

Sue, I couldn't agree more. Someone, and someone as shamelessly opportunistic as Steve Kent, toeing the party line on something as crucial as this is really rather unconscionable, especially if the concerns of both those in the industry and ordinary citizens alike are in effect ignored to carry forth with the legacy dam that as you say, will seriously hurt our future. For shame.

Hi Sue,

I was at the PC Convention is October I was observing Mr. Kent. He was engrossed in keeping up with his two Blackberries rather than taking part in the matters at hand.

It's hard to take anything Steve Kent says seriously. I'm sure that's the feeling of many in the province. So his backing of the Lower Churchill deal should cause anyone to have a sober second thought.
