Alcan to spend 58 Million to expand Corporate Headquarters

in Montreal - Quebec.

Maybe our Premier can simply visit the grand headquarters of Alcan when we are ready to deliver power to our competitors.

You see the benefits of using power to attract heavy industry are not restricted to smelters and refineries. When a giant like Alcan or Alcoa or CVRD or IOC increases it's industrial presence in any jurisdiction - it's likely administrative and corporate will follow.

A Canadian Press Story quotes:

Alcan's (TSX:AL) decision to spend up to $58 million to expand and renovate its headquarters in Montreal solidifies Quebec's international economic prestige in the crucial aluminum business, provincial politicians said Monday.

This is what an energy plan looks like in operation - something the Government of Quebec - Hydro Quebec - and Quebecers have known since the 1970's. Newfoundland and Labrador is still waiting for it's first one - it's embarrassing yes - but worse - it's economic suicide.

So Premier - when you ship power out of Labrador - you do not only eliminate our industrial potential - you eliminate our ability to attract corporate headquarters and research facilities.

Do not let this Premier export our future.

Alcan employs 12,000 Quebecers and returns $2.5 Billion a year into that province's economy. Hey Premier we can suffer some of that here - in Newfoundland and Labrador.
