Why it's okay to question Dean and Dan on Fibre Optics

What fingers in how many pies?
Where's the good Judgement?

A while back readers may recall a story Sue's Blog broke on Dean MacDonald being appointed to the Board of Aurora Energy. Sue's Blog questioned the judgement of MacDonald - sitting as the Chair of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (a Crown Corporation) - taking a position on a company interested in energy assets.

Shortly after the story made the conventional news MacDonald gave up his new Board appointment on Aurora because of a potential appearance of conflict.

At the time it was reported to be more related to Altius being a significant shareholder of Aurora - and Altius had answered the RFP on the Lower Churchill Development. Well yes - that too would be a problem.

But what about this - you know that new refinery proposed for Placentia Bay - the one that the Premier speaks so highly of - and rightly so - the proponent being Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corp. which is backed by Altius Resources - so we might have had the Chair of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro - Dean MacDonald - sitting on the board of a company whose significant shareholder was the company backing the refinery.

Is there any more reason needed to question the fibre optic deal and the judgement of our Chair of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro?

There should be another resignation and we should seek a new Chair for Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and let Dean get on with his personal business.
