VOCM deserves Credit

As the questionable happenings of Friday night unfolded - and we were left without communication services - a few people made the right call.
Linda Swain and Cheryl Gullage used some good journalistic skills and common sense as they made their way into their place of employment - VOCM. They proceeded to get the information people needed - with respect to emergencies and put it over the air as quickly as possible. They were first off the mark and filled an important void left by both Aliant and EMO.
Watching the television was useless as both our local stations were late in getting any information out. The company was slow - EMO - was good I suppose if you were told what they were doing - and government appeared non-existent.
VOCM should be commended for their community service - but moreover the staff on Friday night including the two women mentioned should be recognized for their commitment to public service - and taking seriously their role as information providers during a critical breakdown of communications services for over 100,000 people.
