You see the North American Free Trade Agreement - highly suspect by many Canadians - could at least deliver some of the favourable benefits.
When the dispute arose over softwood lumber entering the States from Canada a dispute mechanism kicked in and went through all stages - declaring Canada was correct in its assertion that the United States was tagging unfair tariffs on lumber imports.
After all legal procedures had been utilized - the Amercians refused to refund amounts (in the billions) to Canadian companies. They also refused to fix the problem.
What do we do?
CAPITULATE!
NAFTA is the agreement which encompasses this industry - creating a new agreement means that NAFTA is not valid. Is the Prime Minister prepared to serve notice that we are signing out of the agreement. If not he is a hypocrate!
The truth is - this new agreement could have been reached without NAFTA - and problably much sooner. You see NAFTA just provided the Americans with more time by allowing them to exercise all dispute mechanisms instead of responding to markets.
Harper your decision to enter into a new agreement which negates the rulings under NAFTA - has effectively killed the Trade Agreement.
You are now in the process of punishing Canadian companies who disagree with usurping NAFTA.
Definition of a fool:
1. One who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding.
2. One who acts unwisely on a given occasion.3. One who has been tricked or made to appear ridiculous; a dupe.
In this regard - our country is being governed by a fool.
