On the announcement of the Fishery Consultations Lloyd C writes:
Listening tonight to the disingenuous rubbish coming out of the mouths of
Williams, Hearne and Rideout made me stomach sick. Can't they get it
through their*&^%$# thick heads that the cause of problem is not disorder
in the industry, the problem is that there is no fish; that the resource
has been brutalized and brought to near extinction by federal gross
incompetence and mismanagement.
The one hope remaining is that as long as a single male and female of the
species survives, there is a possibility of its recovery. This is where
the effort should be concentrated. Instead, we are treated by the Minister
whose responsibility this is, with a load of specious crap about the
promises of a reformed NAFO: a con job in which he attempts to rationalize
his own inadequacy and gutlessness.
The best analogy I can think of is a story I read one time - can't remember
the details - about a bunch of foolish people gathered downstream pulling
drowned bodies from the river, instead of going upstream to try to stop
whatever was that was causing them to fall in.
Danny, Loyola and Tom tell us they are going to have more meetings to talk
about what to do about the victims of this terrible tragedy that has
occurred in our fishery. If they venture into the outports with this silly
"comprehensive consultation", and if Newfoundlander have any guts left,
they will be pelted out of there with rotten eggs.
By the way, it goes without saying, that those meetings are not intended by
any stretch of the imagination to be for the beenefit of the fishermen, but
rather to promote the political agenda of those leading characters and the
interest of their buddies.

and on the issue of Danny and Joey "he makes Joey look like a monk"
The wind in Danny's sails keeps shifting all over the place, you never
can tell whether he's coming or going . I hear him on there again today
getting on with more bloody nonsense,
this time another "comprehensive fisheries consultation", scheduled for the
end of October!!! Don't know whether to laugh or cry. My God, the
presumptuousness in insinuating that the electorate are so stupid as to
believe that this is an any way a solution to this tragic situation. I
wonder who's
lurking behind the scenes spearheading this, and what is the motivation.
Not altruism, and sure as hell not the well being of the vital outport
in-shore fishery!!.
Is there no end to it. The man is so full of himself that he makes Joe
Smallwood look like a monk. Can't there be some move that is not personally
or politically motivated. I'll be interested to see the agenda and who it
is who are going to be the leading spokespersons. I'm sure I can guess a
few of the names.
Lloyd. C Rees.
