The Big Lie that is the Fishery

The absolute collusion to destroy rural Newfoundland and Labrador must be obvious to the media - the Opposition - the Union - and community leaders - yet nobody is talking.

Let's look at the evidence:

The FPI Act
The Fisheries Summit ( now renamed the Premier's meeting)
Silence of most Mayors and Councillors
Suffering of Communities on the South Coast, Northern Peninsula, and Labrador
Silence of the Union (especially Earle McCurdy)
Harbour Breton and Barry fiasco
The Older Workers Program with no early retirement (yet nobody complains)
Loyola Hearn's failure to live up to his Custodial Management promise (yet nobody complains)
The 50 page discussion document for public consultation does not contain the word SCIENCE
No shrimp quota for Harbour Breton
No help for Ramea
Loss of Fish for Science Program (and Feds will not appeal court ruling)
DFO will not take the seal protest case to the Supreme Court but hides secret deal made
Tom Rideout's disappearance
Danny Williams fighting Ottawa on all issues but the Fishery
and now proposed cuts to DFO which could equal 150 million (nothing said)
The media and Opposition are letting the government skate on this issue.

This Story from the Toronto Star demonstrates again what is going on:

Here are some samples from the story.

A union representing 3,500 federal fisheries employees warned today that that figure could rise to $150 million when other measures, such as a federal court decision on fish bartering, are considered.

The Union of Environment Workers, which represents 3,500 fisheries public servants, warned if its predictions are true up to 218 jobs — many of them in fisheries science — could be lost.

"They've made all these allusions to doing something about the environment and our oceans, but when you get into the details you find out their true intention, which is to have less science and to make decisions that support some other cause than the environment (and fisheries)."

Come on people we are not dead yet - do not let townie academics like Doug House who have received millions of your tax dollars dictate what happens to rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Show some guts politicians!
Follow Todd Russell this morning - and speak up!
