Who Gets hit with the Conservative Program cuts?

$78.8-million: End to program that gave GST rebates to tourists

Did the federal government consult with the provinces' tourism ministers when it decided to eliminate this incentive to tourists? Is this the best time for such a cut when the Canadian dollar is strong thereby diminishing some of the attraction to visit Canada? It's already a disadvantage to visit Newfoundland and Labrador with the less than competitive and less than desireable service of our Marine Atlantic crossing - then there was the loss of the flight to London.
So Loyola, Norm, and Fabian what are your reasons for supporting this cut?
Can we get the savings put into our ferry service?
Can we reduce the crossing rates with these dollars?

Can we hear from Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador!

$45-million: "Efficiencies" in Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

Did the federal government consult with the provinces on this one? What type of efficiencies are we talking about? How will this impact Newfoundland and Labrador?

$13.9-million: Cancellation of National Defence High-Frequency Surface Wave Radar Project

The High Frequency Surface Wave Radar, installed at Cape Race and Cape Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador, detects low-flying, over-the-horizon targets and surface ships.

$4.6-million: Elimination of the RCMP drug-impaired-driving program's training budget

$5.6-million: Elimination of Court Challenges Program
"I just don't think it made sense for the government to subsidize lawyers to challenge the government's own laws in court," Treasury Board president John Baird said.
Absolute idiotic statement from a Minister of the Crown.

$5-million: Administrative reductions to Status of Women Canada
Considering that Rwanda, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Cuba, Norway, and others notwithstanding perhaps Afghanistan have a higher percentage of women in parliament than Canada - you think this is a wise cut?

Hey Loyola - do you agree with these cuts?
The Globe and Mail story is worth a look.
