Outmigration

Our people are continuing to leave every day heading to Alberta to find work. This is the ultimate truth - when talking about the success or failure of any administration. Danny Williams has done nothing to change this direction. Danny Williams seems passively interested in even thinking about it. For him there are greater challenges - the oil companies, the paper companies, the federal government(sometimes), and unions. His responsiblity to the people is not considered an important issue - to the contrary somewhat boring.
When he speaks of leaving to find work it is not from personal experience - it is a statement to make people and media go away, and for the most part this works. Most people fear him or what he might say if they challenge him. Danny Williams will only deal with common people if there is a photo-op for him or to chastise them for not seeing his "wisdom". When he spoke the other day on a CBC national program and talked about the "tough love" people needed, he thought nothing of the fact he was dealing with adults - men and women who have worked their whole lives only to have their jobs destroyed by federal mismangement.
And yet the media let it pass. If anybody else were to refer to a population of working adults this way - they would be shrugged off as lunatics. Then when he dove into the hakapik issue - with all of the ignorance of PETA, it became a national story - in the same way the Newfy license plates made the headlines. You see Danny's reasoning that it looks awful - or Loylola Hearn's follow-up that the optics are bad, is flawed - to put it kindly. These two great leaders slogging it out in the Gulf each year to get a few pelts for the mortgage over the winter.
Is there an argument for "optics" when the tool they are talking about is considered a humane way to kill a seal, or that it provides additional safety for the sealer on slob ice? The answer of course is no. This might yet be one of the worst cases of "backfiring" we have seen in years.

Unrelated but a follow-up question for the two lads - do you agree with paying our soldiers a tour of duty pay (6 months) $200,000? If you do not- you cannot claim to support our troops and the risk they take for your agendas. And please shut-up trying to defend the position of the Canadian government while paying them less than your average teacher, nurse, or politician.
These two hockey fanatics will gladly see their favorite players make a couple a million a year for hitting a rubber disc into a net than pay our soldiers to "protect our freedoms" and those of other nationals. Grow-up and get to work - you are both miserable failures in your public service jobs. Or in your terminology "lace up the skates" and show up to more games.
