Our future was told today by Harbour Breton

As a person who has stood by the people of Harbour Breton since FPI closed the plant in early 2004 - I can tell you today that the time for such support has passed. After what I have witnessed with this whole Barry, FPI, Provincial Government affair - it is safe to say that until our population is almost decimated there will be no progress.
Bill Barry bought a plant and according to the government FPI broke the law by allowing the sale. Does that matter? No! The Premier has thrown legislation to the wind and let a group of people desperate for jobs be pitched by Barry. Tomorrow the Cabinet will agree to let Barry carry on despite the fact that what was done was allegedly illegal. Once FPI has been allowed to violate the Act with government's blessing they will continue to do this.
Danny Williams is a self stated officer of the court and the fact that he is even considering this to take place is disgusting beyond words.
The Government should fight the sale and turn the plant over to the community - then Mr. Barry or any other interest can pitch their business plan.
Danny, Bill, and John Risley all knew what was happening here and they played unemployed people for fools - and unemployment with no hope forthcoming from our elected leaders - left them for fools.
Pride is gone and begging for whoever will throw them crumbs is what is left of this once proud and strong community.
There were no quotas forthcoming from Ottawa, there was no great plan coming from the fisheries summit, and people were simply moving away. Well the boys got what they wanted, Danny wiped his hands of it by getting the people of Harbour Breton to make the decision for him thereby getting the pesky little fleas away from his cultured skin. FPI got rid of the plant without having to clean up the environmental residue - and without the bother of having to treat the people like anything more than peasants in early China, Barry got the plant his way under his terms because he did not want to wait anymore and he waited just long enough for the people to be absolutely desperate.
I can guarantee you that this mess is quite similar to the state we were in when joining Canada, and like that the plant should have been given to the people first so they could control where it went in order the best deal - in the same manner that our country should have been returned to us from Commission of Government before we voted on Confederation.
Ottawa and London made the deal then - with people who were desperate and willing to take anything including a check for children. Barry and Danny made the deal on this one - with people desperate to keep their families home. Don Stewart - you should be ashamed - was it really worth it?
How far have we come since 1949 - nowhere, and today we started to go backwards.
Do you remember the hoop-lah over the FPI Act when it was being amended to prevent this type of sale?
