| Media Advisory/DFO: Canada-United States Coast Guard Summit |
| HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 26, 2006) - The second annual Canada-U.S. Coast Guard summit will be held from September 26 to 28 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The summit will examine how the two organizations can enhance their existing cooperative partnership. Canadian Coast Guard Commissioner George Da Pont and U.S Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen will discuss issues of mutual interest surrounding maritime safety and security matters. Commandant Allen will be presented with the flag the CCGS Sir William Alexander flew while assisting in the Gulf of Mexico after Hurricane Katrina. The CCG Commissioner will recognize and award the bravery of the CCG Auxiliary who saved victims of a helicopter crash near Canso, Nova Scotia in July 2006. The media is invited to attend the on-water exercise, ceremonies and vessel tours taking place on Thursday, September 28, 2006. All of the events will be taking place on the Halifax waterfront at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. (In case of rain, ceremonies will be held inside the museum; the on-water exercise will not take place.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm sorry but what ever happened to the coastline of Newfoundland and Labrador - I don't care if we only joined in 1949 - some things are just obvious. Time to move the whole works to this province - or it's just another reason to shorten this marriage. |
