Let me see now. First of all our Speaker is up to it again. This time he went to the AG to ask for a review to 1989, only to be educated by John Noseworthy as he gave him instructions on how to properly ask for it. Harvey will you please educate yourself on appropriate laws, it is becoming embarrassing. I for one believe you should resign the post after your stunt at the hospital room.
Secondly, Tom Rideout is moving the Marine Services Centre from St. John's to Lewsiporte. Good move on decentralization Tom now see if your government can get Ottawa to do the same. There's currently a job opening at DFO for an administrative assistant to the Director General, but you can't apply unless you live in Ontario. Also I would like to know if Labrador would have wanted the centre there.
It's all irrelevant Tom because your colleague Kevin O'Brien has announced what he believes the growth and regional centres are for our province and Lewisporte is not one of them. Randy Simms says O'Brien claims they are Corner Brook, Stephenville, Gander, Grand Falls -Windsor, and Clarenville and St. Anthony. Oops he forgot Labrador Minister Hickey. So the destruction of Stephenville and Gander airports does not seem to make sense. I wonder how Deerlake feels! Also where's that growth centre for the south coast and what about Port aux Basques or Placentia/Argentia? NO smelter or what?
And on the issue of the Gander airport, a critical piece of infrastructure for our province and the region, Minister Hearn assures everybody it won't be shut down right away. He is engaging his federal counterpart and the Minister's officials are meeting with the other Minister's officials and through that other government departments to hopefully find some solutions. Is that the biggest pile of political tripe we've heard since the same minister talked about the fishery?
I wonder if placing military presence in Goose Bay is dependent on the government of Newfoundland and Labrador not fighting the Gander downgrade?
The feds are still trying to wrestle the aviation portion of our "to be reinstated" weather services from Quebec. They don't want to let it go. That's why the federal Minister of Environment, Rona Ambrose's, statements are conflicting with the PMO.
It takes time to get things done you know? Loyola, where is the new federal presence you promised? Are we getting the headquarters of a Crown Corp. here soon? Any chance DFO National headquarters are moving here? You don't need NAFO or the EU or Peter McKay's permission for that. Wait you need permission from Stephen, well then forget it, he reserves the right to improve federal government services in areas where the Minister is strong - like Chuck Strahl.
