Considering Canada is the world's largest producer of hydro-power, you can just imagine what our beautiful falls are worth.
Time to look at current rate increases around the country...HERE
If you really care about Newfoundland and Labrador - take the time to read this report.
As you take the time to go through electricity imports and exports - you'll note that Labrador does not get discussed because it's all attributed to Quebec.
Also look at the oil reserves etc.
Find out important your province is without really getting a mention.

Why don't Newfoundland nationalists ever stop to consider what "their" beautiful falls, espeically the ones in Labrador, are worth as falls alone?
Why are they only worth something when dammed, and especially when that power is transmitted outside Labrador, above all, to the Newfoundland metropole?
Isn't nature worth anything?
Isn't Labrador?
Of course it is, that's why larger hydro power works, one area of damage, clean air, maximum output. However if the power from the lower is not used for labrador industrial development, then let it run.
One area of damage?
You need to do some more research into the impacts of large hydro.
The so-called "Upper Churchill" project had impacts from western Labrador through Goose Bay and North West River to Rigolet and north almost to Hopedale.
You used to be able to drink the fresh water of Lake Melville for much of the year, but the controlled flow of Grand River means that the former hydrology of The Bay has been changed, and more saline gets in from the open ocean, and stays. What happens when there's not one, but two or three controls on the flow of the river, and absolutely no freshet anymore?
Why is no one in Newfoundland, with filthy lucre flashing before their eyes, asking these questions? You hear a lot from the rats in St. John's about a Fortis hydro project in Belize, BUT YOU HEAR SWEET BLAST ALL ABOUT LABRADOR!!!
Where is the Newfoundlander's concern for the environment of Labrador?
Hmmm?
Where?
It was not me on the Belize affair. I supported the project because it is an independent country and we have no business in their affairs.
As for Labrador, yes the damage is there versus the damage in supplying the same power by thermal means.
As I pointed out it should not be developed the Upper or the Lower unless it's for industrial and domestic use in Labrador.
Fortunately for Labrador the availability for supply of water is not in short supply therefore it has the luxury to have both.
The question you need to ask is not to me but of Danny, who's he developing the Lower for?
It was not me on the Belize affair.
Never said it was. I just wonder; why are more Newfoundlanders upset about the environmental impact of a project in Belize, then one in their own colony of Labrador?
As for Labrador, yes the damage is there versus the damage in supplying the same power by thermal means.
So you'd rather damage Labrador's environment?
As I pointed out it should not be developed the Upper
It's too late for the so-called "Upper"; it's already developed.
or the Lower unless it's for industrial and domestic use in Labrador.
Ah but not just Labrador, right? Newfoundland has to take its share of Labrador's treasure:
Now if we take that power and sell it to potential industrial customers, primarily in Labrador and others on the island, you can compound that value.
Why not just use the power in Labrador?
Fortunately for Labrador the availability for supply of water is not in short supply therefore it has the luxury to have both.
Luxury? At what cost? How much environmental damage are Newfoundlanders prepared to inflict on Labrador in pursuit of their colonialist ambitions?
The question you need to ask is not to me but of Danny, who's he developing the Lower for?
As always: for his ego and for the benefit of Newfoundland. The fact that the resource is in Labrador is almost coincidence. How did all of Newfoundland's hydro get up there anyway?
No Labrador's environment would be damaged more if it had produced over 5000 mw's of thermal versus hydro, which I said should not have been done at all if not needed for Labrador.
Ah yes for Labrador and it is a Newfoundland and Labrador resource therefore if Newfoundland has electrical needs it should be supported by the project as well.
Newfoundland is also damaged by hydro development as you know but it is far less relatively than the mess in Holyrood where thermal generation occurs.
His ego is one thing and you should dare to challenge him even with half the strength you challenge me and the other ego I'd woory about is Charest because his question is howe did all Quebecs rivers end up in Labrador?
No Labrador's environment would be damaged more if it had produced over 5000 mw's of thermal versus hydro,
More?
Differently, perhaps. How do you figure "more", though?
Ah yes for Labrador and it is a Newfoundland and Labrador resource therefore if Newfoundland has electrical needs it should be supported by the project as well.
Dam your own damn rivers.
His ego is one thing and you should dare to challenge him even with half the strength you challenge me
Already done. It's pathetic, really, how few people are willing (permitted?) to question the Wisdom of Chairman Dan? Is no one else disturbed by the cult of personality that the man has built around himself?
and the other ego I'd woory about is Charest because his question is howe did all Quebecs rivers end up in Labrador?
Charest has nothing to do with anything.
Why are Newfoundland nationalists so paranoid about Quebec? Get over yourselves.
