Talk with Sue - introduces For the Record

Sometime ago I established an online radio program called "Talk with Sue"

Last year it produced six programs to try out the new forum.

Since that time almost 10000 people have listened to the programs which are available online.

For the Record will be a series of shows dedicated to the Muskrat Falls debate. The idea here is to allow an hour of virtually uninterrupted time for critics of the deal or process of sanction to explain what their specific concerns are and what they feel might be a reasonable approach to this development or for energy development generally.

The government and supporters have millions to promote their side while critics are limited.

I am pleased to announce that Danny Dumaresque will be the first guest to jump in and talk to you - the people - about his concerns.

Danny is a former MHA and a former Director of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. He is a longstanding business person in Newfoundland and Labrador and has been actively involved in the Muskrat Falls debate.

Tune in tomorrow at 8 pm in Newfoundland and 7:30 in most of Labrador.

Sue, due to work commitments, I will be unable to tune in live to the show.

Could you ask Mr. Dumaresque if, during his time on the Board of HQ(I believe that is correct)if the issue of HQ selling power to our province ever came up? If so, what were the terms, in a general sense, relative to their selling price to other jurisdictions?

Danny Dumaresque is also a moron

Sue, when these cowards hide behind their "Anonymous" comments, I think you should refuse to publish their crap. If you or I or any other person is going to be called a moron, people should have the decency to publish their names.

Sue Kelland Dyer is one intelligent and honest lady who has taught us a lot over the past 25 years. Without her voice, we would never have been as aware of all the skullduggery that has gone on in our province, particularly as it pertains to the give away of our natural resources. She certainly was very instrumental in advising us of what was coming down the chute when Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro was about to be privatized a few years ago, and very instrumental in having the deal stopped.

Sue, please ask Danny to clarify for us how many MW of recall power we now have at our disposal?

Could that power, and power purchased from Quebec Hydro, not be used to power the mines being developed in Labrador?

Wade Locke is now saying that MF is "necessary" for the mining developments in Labrador to proceed. For us to develop MF just to feed the mines would be foolhardy in my opinion. They would want the power for rock bottom prices while we, the taxpayers and ratepayers would be subsidizing them to the hilt.

The rationale for this project gets more bizarre all the time!

The article contained in the address below states there will be 824 mega watts of hydro energy produced by Muskrat Falls, but according to some this figure will be less due to transmission loss. Is it possible Sue that you can find out what will Emera's percentage of the energy be based on, will it be the gross amount produced or the net amount after transmission loss?

Sue, got a chance to listen to the program in its entirety yesterday. Mr. Dumaresque has a better grasp of the realities of this situation than most people I have heard and expresses himself extremely well.

I know that his reputation has had mixed reviews, due to some political issues in the past, but he comes across as being very sincere. I would love to see him debate Ed Martin, or for that matter, the Premier, because his grasp of the facts and numbers would make it extremely difficult for them to justify their "faith" in this project.

I am almost sickened by the lap-dog mentality of our so-called business elite in this province, following the Premier's speech to the Board of Trade. It is clear that they DO NOT understand the realities of this province's financial picture, isolated as they are on the Avalon, for the most part. Some of them probably do support it for the immediate short-term benefit it will create in regards to economic activity but, in ten years, we will wake up to an economic headache similar to what Greece finds itself in.

This project will keep us economically dependent on the largesse of the federal government for decades. If Harper is supporting it, he will do so only if it is to our disadvantage!

If the government of Canada were serious about economic and energy sustainability, it would develop a consensus on a National Energy Strategy to utilize all of the hydro power available out of Quebec and our Labrador region to supply all of the Maritimes and parts of Ontario. Perhaps, then we could develop the only sensible aspect of this project, Gull Island, for the benefit of all, including ourselves. Even that would require careful analysis as large scale hydro, as a source of energy, may have lost its lustre due to high costs, environmental considerations, and the potential for other and cheaper alternatives.
