Support our Troops

Let's get right to it. I have already posted my feelings on Canada's role in Afghanistan. I oppose it and I have given my reasons. Please see The Elite and the War in Afghanistan

Let's take all who support the war at face value and accept they believe that this is extremely important to protect against "terrorism", or protect "rights of Afghans" or protect "a fragile democracy" or any combination.
Let's consider the statements of the PM our own Premier Danny Williams, talk-host Bill Rowe - that these soldiers are heroes and are making the ultimate sacrifice for their country and for others. They are, in fact, heroes - regardless of anybody's opinion of their mission. They are required by the job to carry out the orders of Canada.
Now let's get back to the meaning behind the words of our leaders.
Considering the value of the work our soldiers are doing - considering the risk these men and women are taking on our behalf - considering they are on the frontline to carry out orders by our Government of Canada housed safely in the Commons - what are they worth?
Let's see if the government and elite will put their money where their mouths are.
Bill Rowe makes more, hosting open-line in Newfoundland and Labrador, than the men and women driving into suicide convoys.
Danny Williams makes more in interest and dividends on his holdings than the men and women standing in front of bullets.
PM Harper makes more in a 1/4 year than the men and women coming home in a coffin.
The Senators asleep in Ottawa, unelected appointed posh jobs make more than those soldiers heading for a tour of the deadly zone.
We pay grown men millions of dollars a year to chase a rubber disc while we pay 5% of that or less to the people who protect their freedoms.
We pay Derrick Rowe hundreds of thousands of dollars to retire - having dismantled a fair chunk of rural Newfoundland while we pay the men and women in harms way less than 1% of what these corporate execs make.
Don't feed me the garbage and the elite rhetoric - pay them the same as any of these people mentioned and I will concede that you or (we) support our troops. A postcard is nice but a couple of hundred thousand for a tour of duty will properly respect the work they do on our behalf.
