Virgin pledges $3bn to green energy

Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group today made a 10-year, $3 billion commitment to renewable energy initiatives.

In an announcement in New York, Sir Richard said future dividends and proceeds from the sale of assets, including shares from Virgin’s airline and train operations, would be invested in renewable energy initiatives.

Branson is understood to be considering other big investments in a range of other alternative-energy technologies, including wind power, hydro-electric and possibly even small nuclear stations. "Nothing is off the agenda," a top Branson aide told The Sunday Times earlier this week.
